Dear THR:
Can we get all the manufacturers listed who make 10mm pistols that are in current production? The ones I can think of are Glock 29/20, Wilson Combat a few models, Nighthawk, EAA Witness and Colt Delta. What else is out there?

Thanks

Here's a good start:

Bud's Powersearch (http://www.budsgunshop.com/catalog/advanced_cat_search.php?cated=26&manufacturers_id=&ITATR_list[1]=&ITATR_list[2]=&ITATR_list[3]=7126&ITATR_list[4]=&ITATR_list[5]=&ITATR_list[6]=&ITATR_list[7]=&ITATR_list[8]=&ITATR_list[9]=&ITATR_list[0]=) for 10mm handguns.

As the above powersearch shows, basically you have Glock variations, EAA Witness variations, and 1911 variations along with some very hard to find revolvers.

Not much of a list at all.

Yeah, I wish there was more 10mm around as well - great cartridge. I should really try out some of the EAA stuff - never seen one for sale in-person before.

I wish more companies would start to manufacture 10mm pistols again. I have a Colt, Glock, and a S&W wheel gun. I love the round.

My objective is to have 5 and then load up on ammo 3000 each. In case at some point it becomes scarce.

You want 5 handguns chambered in 10mm and 15,000 rds of 10mm ammo?

I guess it'd be cheap enough to do. How many magazines for each gun?

Keep us updated........

I guess "cheap" is relative.

You are doing real good to find 10mm ammo at $0.36/round so 15,000 rounds would be about $5400 + sales tax & shipping (if any), five pistols in the range 500-1200 each means he's looking at a $10K+ investment without adding in spare magazines.

3000 rounds...ok.
Why five guns? All five a different gun?

STI, Ed Brown, Dan Wesson, Glock, S&W, Colt, Rock Island Armory, EAA, Wilson, Nighthawk, Kimber, Fusion, are the ones that come to mind; I'm sure I'm forgetting some.

Yes all five different one. Generally speaking 4 magz with each.

Have Delta, placed order for DW Titan but it will take over a year to get to me (strange), Glock 29 and 20 are in consideration as well as Wilson combat. I want then to be possibly all from different brands and new.

Problem is pretty much all commercial 10mm is loaded to same specs and .40 short & weak. No point in having a fullsize HD pistol when you can accomplish same ballistics in a small pistol.

Now, obviously there is no such thing as 10mm +P (Well, theoretically there could be...) but loads loaded to full house original 10mm specs is what all ammo manufacturers should be pumping out, any maybe over full house/SAAMI specs (+P) for select firearms.

As of current ballistics, what is better - 10mm or 9x23mm Winchester?

I know one holds more rounds.

This list includes those no longer in production, but there are others there to add to the list, such as the Armscor RIA 1911 & Kimber Eclipse. Maybe a couple others.

You want five different 10mm guns, but you have no idea which ones, or even what's available? :scrutiny:

And why 15K rounds? That's a lot of cheddar at $0.40/rd or more.

I do have five 10mm guns, but I didn't buy them just to have five 10mms. I didn't set out saying "gotta get five guns in this chambering, better figure out which ones". Two I really wanted (1006 and a Witness Limited), two I came into at good prices (Witness Compact and a Kimber Stainless Target II), and the G20 was purchased so I could carry a full size 10 in the woods without beating up my nice ones.

Your fear of 10mm guns and ammo drying up is not rational. Both have been in continuous production for 30 years, and they're more popular now than ever before. If you know of five 10mm handguns you want, then get them. But it's rather silly to buy as a hedge against discontinuation.

Fusion does many, if not most, of their 1911 assemblies in 10mm. I don't think that's the way to go, as one of the advantages of 10mm is the capacity. I'm NOT a big 'capacity' guy, and carry 6+1, 8+1 and 10+1 with no concerns. But, if you are attracted to 10mm for carry, then to me one might as well take advantage of its advantages. Not that I would love to have a CCO platform in 10...just no practical reason for me to do. I may still, anyway.

The EAA Witness Hunter is one I'm personally familiar with, and the point of mentioning it is that it's 1) all steel, and 2) does 15+1 in a frame that feels about like a 1911 to me. Yes, it's thicker. But it's not more than 1/8" thicker, I don't believe (if that much).

Everyone whines about 10mm factory ammo, and justifiably. It's utterly useless if you're talking about mainstream factory. Well, I mean utterly pointless, not useless. It's fun to shoot, and, when ammo is available, not much more expensive than many others. But, I handload and can't imagine shooting any factory ammo in any caliber except .22, so there's where 10 really comes on. And it doesn't have to be loaded until something breaks to prove itself. It's the only thing I've been shooting for almost a year now--it's The One. In my experience, it can be loaded to produce a round that's super accurate far more easily than 40SW can, and if you haven't experienced full up loads in the little Glock 29 and seen the Wonder, you're really missing something quite extraordinary. I'm not a Glock fan. The G29 seems to defy physics as we know it. Yup...it's that good.
