There's a new Sharif in town,,,

Her last name is Sharif and she is my good and dear friend. :)

I hang out at a great restaurant bar in Stillwater, OK,,,
That's the home of Oklahoma State University,,,
Many of the servers there are students.

I offer to take them shooting at my Rifle & Pistol Club,,,
Several of them have gone out with me and had a great time,,,
She is one who really took to it and enjoys repeated range outings.

She graduated in the Spring with a B.S. in Industrial Engineering,,,
So I thought I would get her an appropriate gift,,,
Our beloved university mascot is Pistol Pete,,,
I thought a western rig would do fine.

I wish I was a wealthy man but I am not,,,
But I do have some good skills working leather,,,
I purchased a new 4.75" Heritage .22 revolver as her first gun,,,
Then I made her a gunbelt, a Texas jock-strap holster, and a bullet pouch.

I presented the gift to her yesterday,,,
Just look at the smile on her face.

I made the pattern for this Texas Jock Strap holster,,
From a picture in the book Packing Iron.

I opted for a cartridge pouch rather than cartridge loops on the belt,,,
It saved me a lot of hours sewing loops and I think it's more practical for the range.

Anyways she was thrilled with the revolver and the cowgirl rig,,,
And I got the pleasure of watching her face light up as she opened the packages.

It's shameless bragging I know,,,
But I just had to share this occasion.

P.S. Just in case you are thinking I'm a dirty old man trying to score on a young lady,,,
Last year I gave a young man the same type of graduation gift,,,
The gun he received was a 4.5" slab-side Ruger 22/45,,,
With an M-7 Tanker style holster.

Easy on the eyes, huh? How does she like the HRR revolver? They get knocked a lot, but I really like mine. Wish I had a rig for it as well, though I really have no place to sport it..!

Very impressive leatherwork, a pretty and smart lady who wears it well, and a generous gesture from you.

Just in case you are thinking I'm a dirty old man trying to score on a young lady
I would never make that accusation because let's be honest, we are all dirty old men on the inside regardless of biological age (female THR members excepted)

I'm in college and work at a bar and the only thing I get from the regulars is a hard time... Nice work tho, I'd like to make a holster for my Blackhawk one of these days.

That's a great story!

Thanks for being an asset to the shooting community!

I really love the tanker holster. Have you every thought of making holsters to sell? I would love one for my MKII 5.5" bull barrel!

Thanks for the compliment my friend,,,
I used to make and sell leather goods as a sideline,,,
But I found that it quickly sucked all of the fun out of the hobby.

Now I just do it when and if the mood strikes me to create something.

Another female range buddy of mine just purchased a "Lady Lilac (http://www.lipseys.net/images/RUGER3606.jpg?maxwidth=520)" Ruger SR-22,,,
I have a small piece of purple dyed snakeskin of some ilk,,,
I am going to attempt an inlaid pancake holster.

Another reason I shy away from paid work,,,
I really dislike making the same thing twice in a row,,,
Repeating myself at the workbench is tiresome and no fun at all. :o

It's a good thing I have a decent paying office job,,,
I would suck at running a small business.

Well done!

I feel it's our duty to pass on the love of firearms and principals on which this country was founded.
If by giving a gift of a firearm/leather you ignite a spark-it was well worth it.

That was a very thoughtful gesture, and I hate to rain on parades, but...

...does this attractive young lady know that you're posting her picture...and her first and last name...and her city of residence...all on the internet?

Sorry, I just worry about that kind of stuff.

Sorry, I just worry about that kind of stuff.

Not a problem my friend,,,
It shows you are an honorable person.

It's okay though,,,
I asked for her permission.

You are a very generous and kind person!

Good for you, sharing the shooting sports with new people!

If the gun is not safe loading all chambers the use the 'load the first chamber, skip one chamber, and load the remaining four' method (presuming it is a six shooter.)

You can never be to familiar with your shooten irons!

I have both the Heritage .22 revolver and the Heritage Big Bore in .357, and they're both fine, solid guns. And a whole lot of fun.

Since I don't have Aarond's skill with leather working, can anyone recommend an affordable leather rig for both? Or do you sell stuff, Aarond? Thanks.

Very nice indeed! But instead of a "jock strap holster" I'm betting she refers to it as a "thong holster."

Very nice leather work. I wish I had your skills.

BTW, I have two nieces and a nephew at OSU. All three in Mechanical Engineering. One's in grad school there.

Another is a senior and already has a job offer from Chevron in Houston. $75k a year starting.

It turns out she passed on the Lady Lilac,,,
So I bought it on a whim. :o

I had been considering a SR-22,,,
This one was just unique enough that I decided "what the heck".

The Evil Pawn Shop Guy had a black and a Lady Lilac,,,
Last week I went to take one last look at the little purple pistol,,,
But when I got there he had sold both the black and purple one to a hubby-wife.

Nothing cinches a "want" like being denied it,,,
I told the Evil Pawn Shop Guy to please order in another one.

I mentioned it to a range friend,,,
She said she wanted to go look at it for herself,,,
When she decided not to buy it now I went ahead and made the buy.

I felt my Y-Chromosome shrivel up just a bit,,,
But I am secure on my manhood so,,,
Let the teasing begin. ;)

I wish I was a wealthy man but I am not,,,

Some gifts have a value greater than the cost, and I think this is a perfect example of that. A gift from the heart.

Did you make the Tanker holster as well? It's a beaut!

Yes, I was bored one weekend and whomped out that prototype,,,
Now I need to get Mike to bring it back to my shop,,,
I never got to make the straps for it. :o

I like making unique rigs,,,
But about two of any rig is all I want to do,,,
It's nearly impossible for me to make myself do a third anything.

BTW, thanks for the compliment.
