I recently purchased a Remington Matchmaster 513-T.
Apparently these had a plain stock with no checkering. This one is checkered with sling adjustment taps.

remove action and barrel from stock, which you should anyway as old guns tend to rust under the wood. There are letter codes on the lower left side of barrel that I have a table for. My guess is 1949. there were 69,000+ made from 1940-1945 under govt. contract. About 150,000 made total till 66 (Remington officially says 137,000 but admits it may not be accurate. I think it is a special order 513T with Lyman sight and checkering up grades. I have increased my valuation to $600, at least, if I am correct.

It almost looks like a 513T with a 513S stock except for the plate on the forearm for the sling swivels. Would like to see some more photos of the stock. Could also be a T that someone checkered the stock. I am not aware of any factory checkered T's but would not bet any money that they never made one. There should be a letter code on the left side of the barrel just in front of the receiver that indicates the month and year of manufacture. The code breakdown is in an Gun Bluebook price guide or go to the Rimfire Central site and look under Remington for a Sticky at the beginning of the forum that gives the code breakdown. Great shooters.

A Model 37 Rangemaster of the vintage will have the serial number stamped in the wood under the butt plate. A 513 may be the same.

You can decipher the barrel code online at Remington Society.

Don't forget to hit up Brownells (http://www.brownells.com/magazines/rifle-magazines/magazines/22-rimfire-clip-magazine-prod7944.aspx) for a pile of magazines.

Very nice rifle, I have seen a lot of these and never saw one that did not shoot very well. Mine liked the old Western Expert ammo that was very greasy, Some of you may remember the grease.
