It is a back action lock, been around since mid 1800's or so. With the coil spring, I would say that is a recently made one.

Yes, and notice where the sear trip lever is, in the "top front" not the "bottom rear".

hammer was installed upside down. It looks like a Thompson/Center coil-spring lock otherwise

It's a single screw (mounting) T/C.
