I need to get glass on a 308. The two I'm trying to decide on is Falcon menace 4-14x44 (maybe IR) or SWFA SS 3-15x42.
Does anybody own either and what you feel about it

I hear positive things about the SWFA, but I know nothing about the Falcon. What kind of shooting are you planning on using it for?

I have a barska on it right now. I want to switch from just shooting in stationary positions to the shower competitions.

Did your phone autocorrect highpower into shower, or is there a new sport I'm not familiar with?

Yes it's a new sport... let's change shower to sniper

Of you're wanting to compete with it, I'd say the SWFA would be your baseline. You're probably going to be pushing its limits at times. From what I've heard about them, though, it's serviceable.

Is this the swfa you're talking about?

That's a lot of features for the money. A buddy is looking for a scope; I think I'll forward the swfa link to him.

Check out the Nikon M-308:

The BDC 800 reticle is popular.

Tim,

Isn't that a second focal plane scope? I'm sure it's a good scope, but I'd recommend a FFP scope if he's going to be doing competitions. It's much faster than dialing to full magnification each time.

Looks like a good scope for a hunting rifle in open areas, but not suitable for what DSling wants to do.

Yes, a first focal plane scope would be an advantage.

I like the Vortex FFP scopes:

This Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP would be my choice.

Somewhat more expensive, but I believe the money is well spent. I have the Viper PST 2.5-10x32 FFP, bright and clear. My first FFP scope, didn't know what I was missing.

Vortex Viper PST 4-16x50 FFP mil/mil. A nice piece of glass for the money. I have it on my Savage 10 FCP HS-Precision and an completely satisfied with it.

skip the falcon. the swfa SS will serve you well. i have their fixed 10x on a .22 and also use it to test other rifles. good glass, durable, and tracks perfectly. i also have the vortex viper pst 4-16x ffp that others have mentioned and this is also a great buy. also great glass for the money and a warranty second to none. i'd have to compare them side by side to say whether it's worth the extra $200, but either way, you can't go wrong. it could come down to which reticle you like better.
