Hi all,

I moved from SD to Tampa last year and am really missing waterfowl season. Does anyone live in/around Hillsborough Co and hunts ducks/geese? I really have no idea where to go and I haven't met anyone that hunts since moving. Not looking for your spots, just some hunting buds that know the game down here.

Bluebills in the bay are about the only game in town. You might get a gadwall or redhead if you're lucky.
There's virtually no duck hunting in Florida without a boat unless you go south to the STAs.

Don't ask for specific spots or you'll be ridiculed as a cyber-scouter.

Yeah, kind of what I figured. I am guessing most guys travel towards the center of the state. I may just have to spring for a plane ticket and go back north for a 4 or 5 day weekend.

thanks
Jon

I did a lot of waterfowling when I lived in FL. Most of the good hunting was a 4 hr drive southeast to a state run hunting area you had to call into and reserve a spot much like calling a radio station to win a prize. There is good hunting in the middle of the state along flooded timber and small ponds. The St Johns river is good but you need a boat. Most of the bigger water requires a boat. If the water is over your chest waders do not let your dog retrieve or he will be eaten by the big swamp lizards. There is great hunting in the glades and lake okachobee. If you want to shoot honkers go north to lake mary in the panhandle. The bays north of Tampa all hold divers but you need a boat. There is a lake about an hour north of you called stump lake near Inglis. It is good for woodies and teal. Orange lake north of Ocala is a great lake if you have a boat with a go devil.
