New RRA LAR-8 rifle with Nikon 308-BDC scope.
Can I get some feedback on the pros and cons of this rifle/setup?

It also cane with a warning NOT to use the Magtech .308/7.62 ammo with the rife?
Whats up with that?

Been waiting for my LAR8 since last December. :(

Dunno about a Magtech ammo warning. I've got a bunch of that and it shoots fine from my other .308's. Maybe that's worth asking about on the RRA forum over at ARFCOM.

What grain weight of ammo is the BDC scope set for?

I have 3 LAR-8 Rifles one is mid one standard and the third being the 26in Target. I have had no problems with any of them. The mid and standard both hold at 1moa and the Target model holds at just over .5 in. I highly recommend them. I like metric rather than inch mags. Scopes are a personal choice. But try not to go cheap. Nikon makes a good scope, good glass.

BDC scope is for the 147gr ammo.

Not sure what the deal is with Magtech ammo? Slip of paper came from RRA with the rifle saying to not use magtech ammo.

I'm seeking clarification on the Magtech ammo from RRA.

MagTech that I have in the golden colored box has softer brass casings than they should be. I did not receive such a warning when I got my LAR-8 a year ago and tried the MagTech and it had issues with extraction...leaving the brass in the chamber with the rim pulled off....after removing the shell the gun would not fire with other ammo due to the small bits of brass from the MagTech becoming lodged in places around the bolt's locking lugs. Took a bit of digging and cleaning to allow the bolt to fully close and have not used MagTech in my LAR-8 again. It works for my M1A and my bolt actions but never again in my LAR-8....the brass is too soft!

The LAR-8 should do you good! I had the predator and it was a great rifle. Which one did you get?

I'm glad the OP has brought this thread up. I am thinking of selling my heavy weight DSA STG 58 Paratropper with folding stock for an LAR 8 Predator HP.

I'm the OP and it is not my rifle but a friends.
He got the Magtech letter with the new rifle and ask me what I knew about it. Thanks for telling me about the soft brass.

If I recall it is a 20 inch barrel on the rifle.
I tried to push him towards a bolt but he wanted a semi so then I tried to go to a new PTR. He already sent the money that morning to LAR for the rifle. I think its great but never myself shot a LAR but have heard good things. I have an assortment of HKs from the 70s and they are great too but being rare they are overpriced in my opinion.

I have seen some great shooters made from Savage with aftermarket stocks and that lets you dump more money into quality optics. Good optics are a good investment as you can swap it to the rifle of the day. BTW I think he spent around $500 for the Nikon BDC scope. Inaccurate guns are just frustrating as heck aka my old Mini-14.

I will post more info on the rifle when I talk to him today after he picks up the iron sites for it.
