I got a wild hare to shoot the M&P Pro C.O.R.E. in Open Division in this month's handgun match, mostly because nobody acknowledges the growing multitude of "regular" pistols with "carry optics" and current rules state that ANY optic puts you in open division.

So... I'm going to get slaughtered going up against compensated/tuned race guns shooting 9mm Major and .38 Super and 26-round mags, but I figured if I had at least one "big" mag I could make up some of the disadvantage.

Ideas?

Taylor Freelance or the Taran pads. The Arrendondo seem to fail with them cracking and having the rounds end at your feet.

The Freelance 170mm extension I got (great service, BTW, shipped the morning after I ordered at night) needs some tweaks (detailed instructions for which are included in the package) so it will hold the full 26 rounds... right now I can only get 19 into it. The top rear inside edge of the extension and the rear bottom edge of the follower have to be beveled a bit.

BTW those with experience with these things... is there a preferred way for installing the baseplates/extensions with the spring in the way? I've tried both 1. compressing the spring fully into the mag body and 2. trying to leave the spring expanded into the extension and lining up the tabs without jacking up the spring...

neither seems like a good method. :D

I guess I don't really see the point of going above and beyond to get a working 170mm mag(s) on a gun that you readily admit is not really going to be "competitive" in the division anyway with no comp, and I assume no major scoring.

17*2 = 34; so even just topping off the stockers, there are going to be a somewhat limited number of times you have to reload more than the other open shooters, and I'd guess that fact wouldn't be near the top of the list of things that is limited your competitiveness.

Yeah, but nobody said having fun has to make sense. :)

Taylor Freelance 170mm extension intro, assembly/disassembly, modification, and shooting evaluation for any interested. I'm very impressed so far. Taylor shipped the next morning after I ordered at night, got back to me immediately with answers to emailed questions, and builds a top-quality extension.
