I found an older CZ 550 FS (full stock) in a shop. It is .30-06 and is stamped CZ USA, Oakhurst, CA. It is unfired. The rear sight is different than the current sights. This one has what is called a Battue sight. It looks a little like a quarter rib, with a "V" groove milled into the end of it for the rear notch. The front sight is interchangeable.

I liked the looks of it and wondered if anyone has any experience with this type of sight? Are they rugged? Is is adjustable?

Thanks for any help,
Steve

The battue sight is designed for rapid target acquisition, to be used when hunting herds of animals on the run. I don't think they are normally adjustable, are most suited for close to medium range shots, and I would guess they are rugged enough for field use.

Another example is the gun discussed in this thread:

I believe they're popular in Europe, but stateside folks seem to regard any iron sights as an affectation, like a monocle or pith helmet :D

Just the same I'd love to get my hands on a CZ 550 with the battue sights. It will go with my safari jacket and short pants when I say "eh what!" to the local hunters.
