Now that the BATF is the BATFE under DOJ:

A question from a layman,

Will Class III licenses & associated fees continue to be handled as part of
the gun-owner's taxes, making the gun ownership information a matter of
confidential tax records...or will those fees (and the associated gun
ownership information) now be processed by a law-enforcement agency (i.e.
under DOJ)?

They were already processed by a law-enforcement agency when ATF was completely under the Treasury Department. AFT sent the Form 4 information and fingerprints to the FBI for the background check. That will not change and I'm sure the FBI keeps a record of that information. The same applies to obtaining and renewing licenses.
