I've got a .45 Colt River Bisley. I was messing around and noticed the roll mark on the cylinder references the year 1896 on one of the crests. Does anyone know what that refers to? It predates Ruger by half a century as far as I know.

Not sure on the 1896.

In 1894, I believe colt introduced their bisley grip. There is also bisley England where the famous shooting competitions were moved in the 1890's from wimbledon.

Howdy

Yes, the Bisley model Colt was introduced in 1894 and made its debut at the National Target Matches at the Bisley range outside of London. I have no idea if this has anything to do with the number 1896 being on a Ruger.
