Anyone have these? Anyone have these on a Winchester Defender? There is a guy at our club that has them on his 870. I like the way the front collar bolts into the front bead screw hole with a set screw. Anyway, just wondering how hard the rear sight is to drill and tap and any other comments/suggestions.

Oh, and Dave, before I get the lecture, I know, I know--BA/UU/R. Have done that and I think the GR or maybe even a rifle sight set up will allow me to get on target a tad faster for what we do.

Thanks,
GT

I've not heard of these. Can you post more info, or a Web link to the manufacturer?

GAG! RETCH! Ahhhh I feel better now.

Seriously, they have to be the ugliest sights ever created by man. If you are turned on by ugly, go for it. They work ok. Just make sure that you get the correct front sight to fit your barrel diameter. If you get one that is too small,,you will never get it on.

Check out the clamp on front sight by LPA. It is much nicer and easier to install.

Unless you have access to a GOOD drill press or vertical mill, it would be best to have a gunsmith or machinist drill the holes for the rear sight.

Strange-looking beasts, aren't they?

I don't know that I'd like a front sight like that. I'd prefer to stay with something like the Scattergun Technologies sight set:

- or, as a low-cost alternative, the Mossberg ghost-ring sight set:

(see here (http://mossberg.com/acatalog/conversions.htm) for more info).

I like the Wilson's but I do not like the fact that the front sight glues on. Not very durable IMO. Also, the Sage sights are offered without the wings. I might go that route. Not sure.

For all practical purposes, the Wilson front sight won't work on a Winchester. It was disigned for the Remington 870 and 11-87. It could be mounted, but it would take a lot of extra work. Wilson makes an adapter for barrels that don't have the Remington pedistal, but I don't yhink it works very well.

I just remembered something. The most common version of the 1300 had a full length magazine tube. The clamp-on front sights may not work unless they are cut away to clear the lug on the barrel. I don't know if the Sage front sight is cut away to fit a 1300.

MMC used to make a clamp-on front sight that was made to fit a Mossberg 590 with a full length tube. This may work on your 1300.

You better check this out before you order anything.

One more thing. I have seen the Wilson/Scattergun front sight installed with a combination of epoxy and a screw through the rear of the ramp. It was done nicely and seemed to hold on just fine.

Okay, for those interested, I bought a set of these. I bought the biggest ones to accomodate my barrel at .886". The front sight is on now. I had to cut back the underside to slip over the lug that slides over the mag tube. There is an option for a Mossberg but I wasn't sure if that was what I needed. I hand fit everything precisely and drilled and tapped the hole for the front set screw. It is designed to replace the bead. Two complaints so far--the tritium insert in the front sight screws in and is not straight when fully tight. Guess I'll be green Loctite-ing it tonight to make is stay straight. The other issues is that they made one of the screws for the rear sight a 6-40 and the other a 8-32 like the front. Why aren't they the same? Do you know how hard it is to find a 6-40? You can't. I had to order it from Brownell's. Guess the rear sight will have to wait until next week. Should be fairly uneventful but I'll post any thing that comes up with pics when I am done.
