So,

As the title states, members/active members;

What is the difference?

Are the other 170k(ish) members locked in carbonite ?

Just wondering about the disparity, and what technical fence divides the two?

All those who are "active" are members, but not all members are active. In order to be considered active, a member has to visit the site within 30 days. So the numerical difference between the two numbers is the number of members who haven't visited recently.
