Smith and Wesson models 17, 18, 34, 43, 63, and 617.
The model 35 is also a .22 caliber LR, but is really scarce
and very hard too come by.

Agree with my friend Ala Dan.
right partial to the model 18 myself.

The H&R 999 I had was accurate. Being a top-break the rear sights had a tendency to get loose, and had to replace the "hinge pin" ( whatever the tech name is) a few times.

High Standard - the Sentinel I had was accurate and dependable. Don't know how they stack up as far as standards of quaity today, but mine was the gun I got when I was born. I shot that gun a lot. I want another just for sentimental reasons. [ loaned to dad, half bro pawned for dope]

Single actions, The ruger single six is great and one can get a 22mag cyl as an added bonus.
The Bearcat , though only a 22lr, is too much fun and good looking as well.

Yep, we need more blue and wood DA 22lr revo choices today, for sure.

I'm somewhat bias on this subject. I don't feel anyone makes any kind of good wheel gun any longer. (Maybe Ruger, however the small novel that they put on the barrel turn me off.) Quality seems to be a thing of the past. :(

My favorites of earlier days are the Smith & Wesson model 63's and 617.

Colt, S&W, H&R, Ruger, Uberti and there were some nice Taurus and RG 22 revolvers.

The absolute ultimate and possibly the most accurate 22 wheelgun ever built is the Freedom Arms on the '97 mid-frame.

Genuine MOA. Repeatable 15/16ths inch groups at a measured 100 yards.

The question could be better answered if you give a price range. The best examples besides the Freedom Arms are older discontinued revolvers.

I have ben happy with my Ruger Single Six so far. I have owned a few over the years with no problems at all with any of them.

For $150, you can get a used, old model (ejector rod is usually unshroded) Charter Arms Pathfinder in excellent condition. Physical size compares to a S&W "J" frame like model 34. It came with 3" or 6" barrel, and adjustable rear sight. Empty weight with 3" is 18 1/2 ounces. I have their Undercover .38 model and I am happy with that. It's the second one I've owned, because I sold my first one back when to buy a new toy. Right now I'm looking to buy a Pathfinder in .22 magnum.

Guns I'd recommend, that may hold up a little better if you're going to shoot a bunch, are Smith & Wesson models 17, 18, 34, & 63, and Ruger SP-101. Ruger's rear sight is windage adjustable only. I prefer double action revolvers like these because they can also be fired single action.

In a single action revolver, I recommend a Ruger New Single Six.

Ruger is hard to beat on all fronts.

SP-101 for Double action

Bearcat for Single action

Single Six for a second cylinder in .22mag.

I have a nine shot SS Taurus 94. Great quality, great shooter, tons of fun for $229 NIB.

I like the S&W 317 with 3" bbl and adjustable sights. Nice & light.

The larger S&W 18 is nice too (and I happen to have one of those).

The Ruger SP101 is the most rugged of all, but has a clunky DA trigger.

Ruger is hard to beat and with a spring kit the trigger usually feels a lot better

I like my S&W model 17 best

Ruger Single Six is nice too, but I find it tough to load because I have large fingers. The 22mag cylinder is nice to have though. YOu can usually pick up a Single Six with both cylinders for relatively short dough.

You might want to check out a S&W 617 if you want a medium frame revolver as a companion to a similarly sized centerfire revolver.

I'm happy with my Taurus 94. I'd have preferred an alloy frame, but there were none available when I bought the 94.

My favorite .22LR wheel gun was an OLD S&W Kit gun. Gave to oldest son to teach his kids how to shoot.

Now have a Ruger Single Six. Whole lotta fun, and a good shooter. 22Mag is rather "spendy" for just plinking, though. ($6.50 per 50 and up...way up for the .22Maggie ammo)
