CZ75 P-01 -vs- H&K Compact

March 28, 2004, 06:07 PM
Got a chance to do some shooting with my nephew today. He has an H&K and I've got the P-01 both in 9mm...
He has about 1,000 rds through the H&K and I've got less than 200 rds through the P-01...
Ever since he bought the H&K he has complained that he isnt accurate with it at all...
When he shot the P-01 for the first time he made a nice 5" group from about 12 yards...
I was about the same with accuracy with either gun but the P-01 felt much more comfortable pointing and shooting in the hands than the H&K did...

The trigger pull on the P-01 felt a little smoother, that was the first thing he noticed....

The H&K did feel lighter than the P-01 I guess its only about an ounce difference but it felt lighter than that....

Only put about 100 rds through each gun but they both performed without any problems...
Used some Wolf ammo, and some Winchester ammo, with 10 rds of hollow points.....drf

IS a P-01 in his future? shows you that german and czech quality often don't compare to price tags..or should I say. The huge difference in price
doesn't show up with performance.

The CZ will give a Glock, SIG or even H&K a good run any day:)

Well.....the dead to wake up once in a while :D ;)

Ill side with CZF......I LOVE HK guns...always have. The comparison is pretty accurate. My first custom PCR was wanted by a shooting buddy who had an HK USPC he wanted to trade me for it. I liked my PCR better...

The HK is slimmer and has more recoil. Both are excellent quality CCW's in their own right............either way you can do ALOT worse.

Shoot well.

The beauty of the P-01 is, the more you shoot it, the better the trigger gets.

There are better guns out there than CZ. But not at this price range.

CZ is the best value (best Bang for the Buck, so to speak)

the more you shoot a H&K, the better the trigger gets, too but it starts out pretty bad.
I've seen good triggers in CZ and bad ones, too.
If you're going to do action shooting, steel plates, I'd heartily recommend a CZ, and this is from a H&K admirer.
I like my H&K for crazy shots like my buddy saying "I bet you can't hit that freon canister 100+ yards downrange"
The H&K is better in the accuracy department, but if you're doing running shots at 15 yards, the superior ergonomics of the CZ will definately outrun any advantage you would have had with the H&K.
I don't do well at long ranges with CZs for some reason, but for 15 yards they come into their own.
50+ yards and the H&K or my 10mm guns, or revolvers get the nod for their superior accuracy.
So basically, it comes down to what kind of shooting you see yourself doing.
(BTW, my H&K usp compact is a .45, hence better accuracy.)
If the choice were limited to 9mm versions of the pistols, I would definately say go with the CZ.

I am gonna get yelled at, but the HK USP is in insult to the fine quality firearms that HK manufactures. My reasoning behind that is the several we had at the rental range, and how fast and often they broke. Started off with 6, and when I left, we had two. I was there for a year.....
The Glocks, Rugers and CZs took all the abuse and kept on chugging, but the HKs couldn't do it - mind you, rental guns get shot more in a week than some personally owned guns do in a year! So, with the sharp palm shredding checkering, and lack of long term reliability, (unless things have changed, as that was a little over two years ago), I would not own an HK USP....
CZ all the way, baby....

My unbiased opinion is the P-01. :D I love mine. It points better than any gun I have handled.

In my experience, the CZ75-based guns are the most comfortable guns bar none. I love 1911s and I appreciate BHPs, but the CZs are the best for pure handling comfort.

The HK USPs, esp the full size guns are among the least ergonomic for me, along with most Rugers and the larger frame S&Ws.

I'd personally rather pay more for a PCR or P01 than a USP Compact although I have nothing other than ergonomic arguments against the USPs.

The USP is the most accurate of the two. Aside from custom guns, nothing touches an H&K.

I have a CZ-75 and a USP. The CZ now has the better trigger after 30K rounds.

Reliability goes to the H&K, but not by much. I've had exactly ONE failure to feed or extract with my H&K that was not tied directly to the operator or the ammunition. The CZ has had about five. Repair rates are equal (two major part failures).

Service from both companies has been good, although you have to deal with a third party parts dealer to get things for your H&K.

My experiances with the USP have been pretty good but CZs point better for me. I traded off a USP 40C for a rifle. It just didn't fit any niche I wanted filled. If it were a full-size I might have kept it. If it were a full size .45 I DEFINATELY would have kept it.

That being said. I plan on my next 3-5 handguns all being CZs. :D

I've been shooting my P-01 quite a bit lately and the thing is very accurate. The great ergonomics don't hurt either. The only problem I have is that the sights seem small to me, but I guess I'm just used to the sights on my P99's (which I am more accurate with).

as far as i can tell, the cz has value and ergonomics on it's side.

HK is an excellent weapon, but cz is where the value is.

There is no denying the HK is a stellar weapon.......maybe the cadillac of handguns. They are accurate in general. But I wouldnt say they are more accurate than CZ's as a blanket statement.

Ive had many CZ's that would put the many HK products Ive shot to shame.
Ive also shot HK's that would put my "moderately accurate" CZ's to shame.

There really is no rule......HK is an excellent product but both makers have many levels of guns/accuracy.

Id put my SA Walt has on par with an Oring'd barrel HK on the market for none.

The CZ40B I got from Black'd less than an one inch from an offhand rest @ 14-15 yds with 5 rnds of Blazer yesterday.

Many guns Ive had would give my STI a run for its money.....and cost alot less.

Some of them are good and some are plain and simple shooters.
Shoot well.
