New Show, New Name, Same old Mustache.

Gentlemen:
Amid a whole bunch of internet confusion created by my former employer... we've gone public with our done deal with OLN.
The new show is Shooting USA. Much about it will seem familiar to you... certainly the host will be familiar.
Details are posted at the Website if you care to read more about it. http://www.JimScoutten.com
We shooters have some very good friends at OLN. They are very excited about the shows we're doing for them. Just try not to be confused by that old show name.
Regards,
Jim Scoutten

Too soon to answer that "in addition to" or "instead of" question and I'm not the guy who will answer it.
The only certain thing that I know is Shooting USA has a signed deal and will appear on OLN starting in June.
And, yes, there is now a better chance Shooting USA may appear on Canadian OLN.

Hey! I'm not stupid!;)
This forum may be new, but I've been hearing from many of you for years now at TFL, on other forums, and by e-mail.
And I want to keep on hearing (well, OK, "reading") the ideas you have for stories, segments, and more.
Years back, Televison was a one way medium... we'd make it and push it out there and hope you dogs would eat the dogfood.
But beginning in the earliest days of the internet (Just after Al invented it), I had a comments chat forum for AS in Compuserve. (Anybody remember Coupuserve?) And from that moment on, if we mixed the dog food incorrectly... the dogs would spit it back!
Aside from the feedback being really fun. (I tend to have my notebook logged in a waiting to see what the comments are as soon as the Saturday show ends) The real benefit in the two-way communication is: we know immediately if we got the facts wrong, or otherwise screwed up. And we also know when something we've produced pleased you guys.
So that's why much of what you are reading about the new show is what you've been asking for... because I'm always listening... and then checking the idea against the travel budget to see if we can do it.
Keep it coming,
Jim Scoutten

Now you know for sure, who writes the stuff I say.
The broadcast journalism explanation that I've always preferred is... we only write because we can't remember all that we want to say.
So everything you hear in AS and will hear in Shooting USA, is written first... to get the words right... and (wonder of wonders) to get the FACTS right.
But the writing has to be for SPEAKING, not for reading. So you'll notice in my posts, the punctuation is kind of home-made. I use triple dots a lot to run sentence fragments together... which would flunk me in English class... but that's how people talk: No periods... no capitol letters... we string thoughts together to communicate.
So it is a great compliment that you can HEAR me in the writing on the forum.
The problem is, I have a heck of a time writing a letter. :banghead:

Question through, One of my favorite parts was watching Bob Mundon do his thing. (I loved the 200 yard shot with a S&W J frame 38) I see no mention of him being on the new show. Any chance of him showing up later?

Jim, my oldest daughter and I used to love watching you on "American Shooter" in the ESPN and TNN days...she very quickly picked up on your closing, "Shoot safely and keep 'em in the 10-ring" hahahaha...she went around saying that to EVERYBODY!

Jim Scoutten,
I'm glad to hear of the move, and even happier that I actually get OLN here in New Orleans. Watching you on AS was one of the reasons that I always had an interest in firearms. I grew up in a family that was not against firearms, but not enthusiasts. If it weren't for you and your show I probably would have never had any "real" exposure to firearms except for all the fiction on tv and in movies. Thanks in helping me stay in the world of firearms until I could actually make a purchase of a firearm and get into it for myself. I wish you lots of luck on the new show and can't wait to see it in June.

Do I remember Compuserve?
DO I REMEMBER COMPUSERVE???
Slowly I turned and crept, step by step, inch by inch...Whoops! Wrong skit..:what:
As a matter of fact I do. I remember being reprimanded by SySops for poking holes in many of the anti-gun postings of the Firearms Forum manager (forgot his official title). I remember havings posts moved to a "quarantine" area because they embarassed the anti-gun people who hung around the forum. I also remember a lot of great pro-gun people there. I'm afraid that I don't recall running across your chat forum... I guess that was my loss.
Jim Scoutten
February 5, 2003, 07:53 PM
That's Incredible!
I've been through (trashed) at least 10 computers since I last logged in to Compuserve!
(My notebooks usually give up after one year on the road, but the one we backed a test car over was only 4 weeks old at the time.)
I couldn't find my number if it was the lottery winner!
Now, the guys who never were Compuserve users or AOL back about 10 to 12 years ago are wondering what the heck we're talking about. So I guess we ought to cut it out.
But the point was, I want to hear your comments. It really helps.

Jim! Great news. Congratulations. OLN is a good outfit. I've done a bunch of stuff for them, and they run my radio show on their channel on the Sirius satellite (radio) system.
Others, if you don't get OLN, just call Dish Network or Direct TV. Both have it. Both have the Outdoor Channel, also. I have Dish in addition to cable, because my cable company wouldn't carry all those good hunting and fishing channels.
See ya in Orlando, Jim.

Jim:
I just viewed your website. Congrats on your new contracts.
I loved your instructional segments on A.S. I've been thinking about a unique segment for your new show. I believe that many individuals buy their first firearm for self-defense. Real life self-defense situations are always instructional. I always read the "Armed Citizen" page in the "American Rifleman".
How about a weekly "Ayoob Files" segment?
Jim Scoutten
February 10, 2003, 09:05 PM
I like that idea about famous quotes from famous people... I can find a place for those, but we have to have them verified as accurate and attributed to the right author. So get your books out and e-mail me directly with what you have found:
"Give me Liberty of give me Death"
.... Patrick Henry (?) was it? you see the problem.
On the other ideas, like the frequent suggestion we update current pro and anti gun legislation each week.... you got to understand these shows must re-run... at least three weekends over a year. So I really can't put in anything that is tied to a known event: "This week the senate is..." won't work, cause it will be flat wrong in 17 weeks when the show runs the second time.
So grapple with that issue as you suggest. It's not like a live nightly newscast.
Jim
PS: Another press release is posted on the website... go see if your brand of NRA competition will have TV coverage this year.

I've been dying for an update, so I went and pasted these remarks by Jim on 1911forum.com..
The first Shooting USA shows will air in the four weekends of the month of June. Then we'll lay out in July during the Tour de France bike race coverage...
Then continue with 13 more shows running year round after that.
Total 18 new shows... and you've already see much of what will be in those shows in the two press releases posted on the website.
I'm lining up the other special stories this week at the SHOT show... we're talking about taking you inside the Lake City Ammo plant...

Hey Jim!
I've been looking for the new show while scraping by on American Shooter reruns.
Where do I look? ...or have I been missing it?
BTW, I may have said this before, but I gained a new appreciation for your show after watching NRA's American Rifleman (is that the right name?). It wasn't too bad, but after listening to those guys drone on for awhile it was nice to switch back to American shooter to see how a pro does it.
Good shooting!

When they announced that show it, frankly, scared the heck out of me... it was the NRA with their resources... many of the people appearing as experts have been in our shows over the years. I thought, "man, the first real competition in 10 years. This could be a problem."
I made a point of tuning in for the first show.

I've always appreciated that American Shooter was a very professionally done show. Something I could recommend to antis about how REAL gun-nuts behave. AS was the only outlet to show the rest of the US how we shooters really are.

Just FYI . . .
The new Guns & Ammo Television show will begin airing on The Outdoor Channel in July.
The format is somewhat like the magazine: gun tests, what's new (shooting the S&W .500 Mag), profiles of gun companies and giants of the industry (Bill Ruger), "What's It Worth?" segments, shooting tips, trick shooting, and appearances by some of the magazines writers and editors, like Jim Wilson, Jerry Lee, Col. Craig Boddington, Rick Jameson, Dick Metcalf, and others. History pieces were shot at the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, WY.
Should be fun.
