Where can I find a copy of the enlistment oath I made when I joined the military? It has been 19 years since I raised my right hand and remember something about defending the consitiution or country from enemies foreign and domestic. I would like to reread it again. No doubt its online somewhere, just dont know where to look.

Thanks!

Edit to add: If I woulda stayed in, I would be getting short! Four years was good enough though!:D

I, {insert name here}, do solemnly swear, or affirm, that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter.

So help me God.

It will be 24 years for me this coming May. MN3 U.S.N. (D.E.P. 1979) Active 1980-84

I, (state your name) do solemnly swear that I will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the Officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the uniform code of military justice. TITLE 10 > Subtitle A > PART II > CHAPTER 31 > Sec. 502. (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/10/502.html)

Then again....

I, _________________, in lieu of going to prison, swear to sign away 4 years of my life to the United States Navy because I want to hang out with Marines without actually having to BE one of them, because I thought the Air Force was too "corporate," and because I thought, "hey, I like to swim...why not?"

I promise to wear clothing that went out of style in 1976 and to have my name stenciled on the butt of every pair of pants I own. I understand that I will be mistaken for the Good Humor man during the summer, and for Waffen SS during the winter.

I will strive to use a different language than the rest of the English-speaking world. using words like "deck, bulkhead, cover, and head" instead of "floor, wall, hat, and toilet." I will take great pride in the fact that all Navy acronyms, rank and ensignia, and everything else for that matter, are completely different from the other services and make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I will muster (whatever that is) at 0700 hrs every morning unless I am buddy-buddy with the Chief, in which case I will show up around 0930 hours.

I vow to hone my coffee cup handling skills to the point that I can stand up in a kayak being tossed around in a typhoon, and still not spill a drop.

I consent to being promoted and subsequently busted at least twice per fiscal year. I realize that, once selected for Chief, I am required to submit myself to the sick, and quite possibly illegal, whims of my new-found "colleagues."

So help me Neptune.

hey, wasn't nothing wrong with the 'johnny cash' uniform!

well, except for that blasted tie. and having to wear that stupid cover (yeah, white cover with black uniform matches SOOO well). and the fact that the belt was actually blue, so it really didn't match either.

Maybe that uniform wasn't as great as I remember.....

I recall it like this:

I solemly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. I take this oath freely, without mental reservation or for purposes of evasion. So help me God.

Affirmed that three times (enlistment and two re-enlistments), but the last one was about 8 years ago.
