Anyone know where to find this? In +P or standard. Been looking for a while never see it, only 124. No luck on ammoseek either.

In my experience, all of the premium 147gr SD ammo has been scarce.

I waited almost all of 2012 to get a few boxes of 147gr Winchester Ranger "T" Series - RA9T, and I haven't seen it come back in stock since.

SGAmmo occasionally will have the 147gr HST in stock, and it goes quickly.

If I couldn't find the Winchester or HST my next choice would be the 147 Gold Dot, if you can't find the std pressure Gold Dot from Speer, Underwood loads the Gold Dot to +P and +P+"

http://www.underwoodammo.com/9mmlugerp124graingolddotjackethollowpointboxof50-2-1-1.aspx

My next choice would be the 147gr Remington Golden Sabre, which SGAammo occasionally has in stock also...

Most of the time SGAmmo.com (http://www.sgammo.com/catalog/pistol-ammunition/9mm-9x19) has it in stock, and I've purchased it from them several times. As luck would have it they're out right now but they seem to get it in pretty regularly. I doubt you'll have to wait too long. They do have 124gr HST in stock; maybe that would tide you over til they have the 147gr again.

I quit carrying HST's just due to the irritating lack of availability. Just as a heads up, the Gold Dot 147gr is available here (http://www.ammunitiondepot.com/CCI-Speer-9mm-147-Grain-Gold-Dot-Hollow-Point-p/53619.htm). Good alternative, and a good price. Never ordered from 'em, though.

HST in any caliber/weight has been scarce forever. Good stuff, though. I don't understand Federal's reluctance to produce it.

124gr HST isn't enough penetration for your needs?

I scored some 147 Winchester PDX-1, and that seems to be pretty rare. Rather have a +P loading for retained energy at 50 yards for reliable expansion.

No, this is for carbine/subgun use.

Sgammo.com and ammunitiontogo.com usually have it.

The company linked in post #4 is Ammunition Depot- I've ordered from them a couple times and got good service. Usually they also have HST but I don't remember if they do right now.

I buy from streichers. All of my 9mm and 45 HST come from them. THERE IS A WAIT. As in up to several months on certain calibers, but since it's my defensive ammo I don't need it in high quantities weekly. I just order while I have some and I'll get email alerts when they are about to ship.

Can't find them. I use WWB 147gr JHP, personal protection series. I have 4 boxes I'll sit on for a while most likely. Now I need to find plinking ammo.

Everything there but the standard pressure 124 you find everywhere is sold out.

Wow, not sure how 147 changed to 230 in my brain but I suppose I could blame it on the massive amount of cold meds I'm taking. ugh. :o

Anyway, MAH gets it in from time to time- you just have to pop on the site and check.

Hahaha! I just just kidding anyways. But I do run 230gr HST in my .45's, so I though that's what you were referring to. The HST is good stuff in all calibers.:D

The .45 230 HST is awesome stuff. Buddy keeps his NFA Reising SMG chocked full of them near his bed. It's his only gun, but I feel bad for whoever gets a 20 round burst from said weapon with said ammo. Curious how the 230 performs out of the Reising's 10" barrel.

I often see Hydra Shok products for sale at Wal-Mart and the LGS, but pretty much never any HST. I wonder why that is? I thought the HST line was brought out as an improved version of the hydra shok line?

I have about 4 boxes each Federal 9mm 147 gr. HST +P and standard pressure.

I honestly don't know why federal still produces HydraShok. It's an outdated design and sucks compared to the HST. You would think they would set up tooling for HST exclusively.

However HydraShok is offered in 115, 124, 135 and 147 through to +P+ whereas HST is only offered in 124 and 147 through +P.

I think the HST is marketed to LE. I doubt they'll market it to the general public until they improve on the design enough to start marketing the new one to LE. Then HST will probably begin to replace HydraShok.

With luck my new HK USC should be at my FFL tomorrow. I plan to wring it out at the range, and if it runs well it will take over "zombie duties" from my HK USP45 Tactical. I'll stoke it with 230gr HST as well.

HST period is hard to come buy unless you want to pay 2 bucks a round. Then you can find it on gunbroker.

Since HST is a newer round and only sold directly to law enforcement...we don't have as much of the excess floating around for us to buy...yet.

It was an excellent value when it was available at all. When the regular price of civilian-marketed SD ammo was a buck a round for 9mm, you could get a 50-round box of HST for less than a 25-round box of anything else, or not much more than cheapie white-box HP's.
When you could find it.
It's not strictly limited to law enforcement, but seems to be limited to shops that cater to them. Many of them also cater to the public, but not nearly in the capacity that the box and chain stores do.
I figure Federal just never thought it was worth tooling up to make it in large enough quantity, or that giving it the air of something rare and superior (which it mostly is) is a psychological aid in their supply contracts.
I've got a box each of 124+P and 147, keep a magazine full of 147, and intend to until I stumble across some more. It functions in my CZ, I've never heard of anything surpassing it, and anything that matches is too expensive for me to function test again.
Between the two, 147 has always been scarce at the sources I use. Not sure why, because it gained a following, but 124 of either flavor was cheap and available at the time and I bought the only boxes of 147 I ever saw.

Recently bought a box of 50 147gr HST's from here:

Whether they still have any I don't know.

Love the HST, keep them for my 9mm, .40 and .45's.

A 124 grain HST stopped the threat in my home. It was the non +p version, also.

I was pretty easily able to find HST a few years ago and bought several hundred rounds. At the time, I could've bought 147gr 9mm about as easily... but chose 124gr. I guess the latest ammo panic has made HST nearly unobtainable... at least for awhile. Obviously, Federal markets it primarily to LE but when surplus is available it's sold to the general public. I have quite a few of the 124gr 9mm and probably even more in .45 ACP but I can't recall what bullet weight the 45 is without digging to look. Heck... I might have some .40 S&W but I can't recall at the moment. But I won't have hundreds of rounds in the 40.

This shortage is related to all other ammo shortages... and it all sucks.

Just 124 there. I notice gander mountain and cabelas all carry 124 standard pressure HST now and it's fairly common and in stock, but federal got smart and put it in fancy plastic 20 round boxes and hiked up the price to match or exceed other perosnal defense ammo in 20 round boxes.

Every now and then, Kevin Underwood sells some 147 grain +p+ gold dot loads. He's running them about 1175 fps out of a 4.5 in barrel.

Already have shot those. They run over 1300 FPS on my chrono from a carbine.

I'm looking for the HST specifically.
