I need another revolver.

There's nothing about my 25-5 that I don't like. Well, 6" of barrel is more than I'd prefer (though it balances perfectly and looks beautiful) and the grip doesn't really agree with my hand (going to invest in some Hogue grips) and the glossy blue is beautiful, but I'd prefer something more utilitarian on a field gun (I leave fingerprints on it when I fondle it, for crying out loud). Okay, so that's three things I don't like about it (well, two, the barrel length is fine), and they can be easily remedied. All in all, not bad for $300.

Still, it's not enough. I want another revolver. Preferably a big bore revolver, and something I can afford to shoot. So I'm thinking a .45ACP.

There's an old 1917 in workable condition at a local Gander Mountain, but I haven't given it a thourough once-over. I'd prefer a new, modern, strong gun to start off with, with a 4" or 5" barrel (6" is a little on the long side).

So, what should I get? I do plan on getting a .357 one of these days too, but I do love my .45s....

I know what cha mean. Just picked up a mod 19, now I'm thinking a 45 acp, 44 magnum & maybe another snubby or two down the line.
You know, get the one w/ the better deal since you'll probably end up buying them ALL sooner or later anyway!

Well,

More N frames simplify the accessories (yeah right ;)..) So my vote is for a 3" to 4" M24/624 in .44 Special. Then look for a 3 1/2" or 4" M27/28.

Then you'll probably realize a need for something handier, like 2 1/2" to 4" K frames.

Then, the snub J frames are really handy, and just can't be beat.

Of course, a 4" 686 with Hogue grips is a gotta have.

Hunt around for a used Dan Wesson .44mag ............as the frames and barrels can often be found quite cheap. Just last month I scored a like-new .357 with a 4" barrel for $225 from a pawn shop, and a 2" barrel from another pawn shop for $40. The rubber finger grove Hogue grip is only $25 or so shipped!
