Sig P238 owners, do you carry 6+1?

The reason I ask is to find out if the magazine springs wear out quicker or if they may be less reliable to feed the first round from the mag if I'm carrying with it topped off. I've searched just about everywhere to find a good answer but I can't seem to find one.

I carry 6 in the magazine on an empty chamber.

6 i the mag, zero in the chamber here. Never even tried the +1 at the range. I believe the mag with the pinky extension holds 7..?

I do, and it's perfectly fine on the mags.

Thanks guys! I have both the 6 and 7 round mags but I like the 6 rounder for carry and would like the +1 if the gun isn't too picky.

Wow, I can't believe anyone would carry an empty chamber.

All our guns are carried +1 until....

My wife's P238 is doing something weird. When she loads it +1 it ejects the magazine when the first round goes off. Not sure what that's about- but the magazine is firmly locked in place and only ejects on the first round fired after loading +1.

I need to call Sig..... again.

6+1 here too...in order for a spring to get a memory to not feed the last round correctly, would be a long, long time...

6+1 all day every day. no problems to date with ball ammo. mine is picky about HP and given the .380 performance, i opt for ball.

For those who carry 6+1, do you carry cocked and locked or half cocked?

6+1, cocked and locked for my wife's daily carry. There is no reason to not carry with a round in the chamber and a full magazine.

I carry 6.....5+1 but only because I visit a communist State every day and have to unload and put away in a safe and the extra space in the magazine makes for a convenient place to keep my chambered cartridge. I do rotate rounds regularly so the same one isn't being chambered all the time.

I would never carry a firearm with an empty chamber but to each their own I guess.

I always carry my 238 cocked and locked.....same with any 1911 I carry. If I couldn't carry it C&L, I'd carry something else.

Mag springs wear out from being repeatedly compressed and decompressed, ie-being used, not from being fully compressed by a full mag.

Is that something we know, or just something that everyone says?

Something we know. More than a few fully loaded magazines have been found in Grandpa's attic from the war, taken to the range and fed reliably.

Always carry this CCW loaded which is 6+1 and cocked and locked as with any single action I carry. And with regards to a 238, in a pocket holster. If you're squeamish about that mode of carry do yourself a favor and carry a DAO or DA. Why carry an empty handgun? Half cock notch not intended to be utilized as a carry mode.

Empty chamber? Not me, NO WAY!
One never knows when only one hand would be available......such as fending off the BG with one hand while drawing and firing to save your life.

I did determine cocked and locked with my P238 just wasn't for me....so it sits in the safe while I carry either a revolver or a DAO auto.

Just on general principles, if I pay $600 for a gun and its magazines fail to feed or wear faster because I carry the gun topped up, I'll be very upset.

The Mrs carries a 238, 6+1 C&L

Wouldn't bother with any other way
