Thoughts on the Desert Tech MDR?

I am excited for this platform. It probably won't hit the shelves for a good year, but I think it'll be worth the wait. The 7.62 version is interesting, perhaps its logistical shortcomings will be minimized with such a compact rifle? As far as the 6.8 option, I'll pass due to standard magazines having issues. If only it took the new Magpul mags for the LWRCI Six8 rifles....

Looks interesting enough, for a new black rifle...but I can't see myself buying one.

I like it at first look. I am looking forward to seeing them vetted. It will need to be a grand cheaper before I look at them for purchase.

Yeah, $2k-$2500 will cover a lot of other very cool historical guns.

I think the >$2000 MSRP is for the 7.62 gun. They said the .556 is going to be close to the Tavor. Heck, you can find a Tavor for just over $1700 now.

In the first video, the sales rep estimated $2150 for the 5.56mm and $2450 for the 7.62mm.

Between this and the LWRCI Six8 platform, which would you choose?

Given that choice, I'd take the Desert Tech rifle. It may be just another new black rifle, but at least it's not an AR. :p

Also, I have no interest in getting into the 6.8SPC. I have plenty of infrastructure in 7.62x39 already, and it works just fine for me. I have no situation that calls for the 6.8mm.

I am very excited about it. Especially the 7.62 version. I'm a full bull pup convert and have considered the Kel Tec RFP for some time. But it's a 'Kel Tec' which is pretty scary option with their low rate of manufacturing, having their customers beta test their products and so on. I like their designs but really don't like the way they operate.
I've been an admirer of DT's long range bull pup bolt rifles though they're too pricey for my wallet. But this new one runs about the same as a SCAR in 7.62. Pricey but not out of whack with the market.
I'm just not sure I'll be able to wait another year.

I don't own a single semi-automatic outside of my Ruger Mark II, but this has me interested. My state (WV) allows hunting with suppressed weapons and with semi-autos. My issue with normal bolts and semis is that I hate the way it feels to have a one pound weight (the silencer) way out front, and the bull-pup confguration would address that.

Would this rifle require a tax stamp? The barrel is over 16" but the overall lenght must be close to the 26" limit...

It is 26"..apparently available as a SBR too with a 10.5" barrel
