A police officer has been shot and wounded in Bellaire.
According to the police, the officer had attempted to make a simple traffic stop when the truck he was pursuing took off.
The police officer then chased the suspect, and when the vehicle crashed, the suspect exited the car and began firing a handgun at the officer, wounding him in the lower left leg.
Another Bellaire officer arrived on the scene as backup and returned fire, shooting the suspect in the chest. The suspect was transported to Ben Taub hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
The police officer is reportedly doing okay at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
Three additional suspects are in custody at this time.
