Demitrios. I'm really digging the grips on that thing. How do they shoot? Do they feel more like a smooth wood or like smooth marble? Warm or soft to the touch?

Ive been trying to find one of those DW. Never had a chance to look at one in person, but I hear they are nice. I've looked at the Colts, but everyone wants and arm and a leg for them and I'm kinda partial to my arms and legs!

Here is my Glock 20SF on the day I bought it, and then the next day, after I custom-made a kydex holster for it in coyote brown.

Normally, my kydex holsters are much smaller and cover much less of the gun, but this Glock is going to be my all-around outdoor open carry sidearm, so I wanted the kydex to cover as much of the gun as possible.

I've only put 240 rounds through it so far, but after I chrono some reloads and get a good mid-level pet load together that doesn't bulge brass, I'll shoot the crap out of it.

I'm not a huge Glock fan, but I appreciate their continued production of a 10mm pistol. This is the only Glock I own, and I probably wouldn't ever own a Glock if it wasn't for their 10mm models.

It's a Springfield Armory 1911 platform with a Peters Stahl 10mm linkless upper. It is ported from the factory. Kinda picky about ammo, doesn't like lite ammo, 180 or 200 is best.

Enjoy promoting the 10mm. Great round.

The "Bourne" series written by Eric Van Lustbader references the 10mm. In one novel, a woman has a Glock 20. A later book in the series has a character with "... a wicked-looking EAA 10mm Hunter Witness ...".

I am new to the 10mm also. Bought a G29 and love it so i had to get a 20. Not a big Glock fan but love these guns. I have big hands and they fit my hands well. Back to your reloading question about aa9. i have worked up to 13.5 gr with 180 gr hollow point from RMR. I have Lone Wolf barrels in both guns and they show no sines of over pressure. No smiley at all. Underwood 180gr xtp show slight smile.( small enough i can re-size them and they will chamber fine) i just dont trust them enough to reload.

Mine's a Smith & Wesson 1006, the progenitor of the 1076. I'm posting a 'net pic as I don't have access to mine at work.

http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y37/tonysoprano150/1006_3.jpg

I've had mine since (IIRC) 1994, and absolutely would not part ways with it. Period. It's a big, heavy gun with very good-to-excellent accuracy, good recoil manners considering the cartridge it's firing, and is just a damn fine looking weapon IMO. I've put many rounds downrange with it and the bore still looks pristine, contrary to a lot of the "barrel burner" comments I heard when I first bought it. I've tried various aftermarket grips/backstraps on it and I've kept coming back to the original. It just fits.

Personally I'd take this over any other 1911 I've seen so far, including one of my club members Les Baer's.

Glock Snob :)

It's funny how the 1911 crowd embraces full race pistols but the "Glock owners" think it's sacreligious...........

I shot IPSC for a number of years and really enjoy a nice comp gun. Just kinda fun to play and the G20 is so versatile. I have multiple barrels in 357sig, 40 and 10mm and with a twist of a screwdriver and the pull of a barrel it strips back to a "stock" pistol.

Ever shot a comp gun?

fiftybmg
February 6, 2014, 11:01 AM
I've never shot a comp gun, it's not something economically feasible to build here.

It's the only Glock I have. The Glock was an accidental choice for me, I was not ever a Glock fan, or a fan of any plastic pistols in general.

I used to carry a Security Six, for a bit over 20 years. In the last six years or so I got involved with IDPA, and bought a few semi-auto pistols for the sport, in the calibers from 9mm to .45 ACP, but no 10mm. At that time, I looked at anything with a plastic frame with great suspicion and much reservation, especially when it came to carry.

After shooting the semi-autos for a few years, I decided I had to have a 10mm, and the only choice for me in this country was Glock. I got one, used it a while, got familiar with it, and started overcoming my prejudices.

Last year, I started looking at the semi-autos I had and thought that it wouldn't be a bad idea to retire the Ruger, and maybe wear some plastic.

And that's how I ended up with the 10mm.

A big factor in the choice was that the 10mm recoil handling is very close to .357 , it fits my hand like it was custom made, and I can shoot it as well as my Ruger. I like the fact that I can carry two speedloaders worth in one mag, and have another mag on the belt if I need it.

No hoof I haven't shot a comp gun I just don't care about the look of the comp on the front :scrutiny: I know that's shallow but hey it's what I like also do you have to alter the frame

No hoof I haven't shot a comp gun I just don't care about the look of the comp on the front :scrutiny: I know that's shallow but hey it's what I like also do you have to alter the frame
On a Glock the comp is screwed on the barrel. KKM supplied the barrel threaded to the specs supplied from carver (comp and funnel maker) but it left too large a gap between the face of the slide and the back of the comp and since the Carver comp is not designed with a setscrew the normal thought would be locktite to hold it steady. Since I am a gunsmith and want the pistol to be interchangeable (multiple barrels). I turned the shoulder back at the end of the threads and machined a groove for a rubber o-ring to lock the comp in place. Works very well!

There is no frame alteration yet but I will probably flatten the hump at the back/bottom of the grip to be more to what I am used to (1911 flat mainspring housing) and stipple the grip.

Regards, HH

Razor's run around 1400?, That's what I have seen on slickguns.com, patiently waiting. Another question, are the new Delta's good or bad? That's another possibility. Or should I go for a Glock 20 and save some money. HD/carry, maybe a little bullseye . I never had a 10, that's odd, even me but they seem to be popular again, and as long as I can get ammo for it, I would consider it over another 45. I don't reload, and at my age, I am not about to start.

@ SigFTW: how do you like the RIA in comparison with the Hunter? I realize that the hunter is a whole other level, but just wanting your opinions.

I like my RIA a lot however it does not compare to the quality of the EAA Witness Hunter. The Hunter has a 15+1 round capacity compared to 8+1. The hunter's trigger is smoother and has a 6" barrel, it's just one finely built 10mm. The Hunter comes with two springs however both are too light for a hot 10mm round. It does not make sense to me to shoot a soft 10mm load, might as well shoot a 40 S&W. So, I will upgrade the spring to a 20#+. I did the same thing for the RIA because it came with a 16# spring, now it has a 20# and runs great.

The only reason I bought the Hunter (I had two 10mm already)was because the price was missed marked at Gander Mountain for $499.00. I could not pass up on a deal like that, normal price is $949.00+.:what:

Recoil, limited producers of the caliber even when it first emerged (far less now that FBI dropped it), hard to fit in a compact weapon system, and generally an expensive round to shoot comparatively speaking.

I own two Glock 29s, one Glock 20SF, one Glock 20SF Longslide and a

As a side note to my fellow 10MM people, if you hunt with 10MM know your limitations with high pressure ammo.

Find a barrel with good case support at the 6 o'clock position. Resize all ammo Full Length. You will know the Glock Smile eventually. Also if you're shooting lead bullets, use only Brinnell hardness of 16 or greater. 200 grain weights are my favorites thus far.

A heavier recoil spring will help keep that from happening. With my reloads, a 22lbs spring drops the brass right beside me.

I was perhaps exaggerating about "the next county." My Kimber is tuned (properly) to my pet load. I think a 22# recoil spring is overkill. To much force upon return to battery. A properly fitted flat firing pin stop and a 20# variable recoil spring, with an over power firing pin spring. That makes my Eclipse run "like a top." This is with FULL HOUSE 200gr hard cast over AA#9. It still throws brass further than more common calibers.
I'm just tired of chasing brass. I made a pretty slick bass catcher, works real nice. But, that makes for static shooting...boring. I'm going back to .357 mag, since I already load for it too. For me, either of these cartridges only sees use for range and "woods." I am trying to simplify. This would get me down to only two calibers to stock for.
All that said...10mm is awesome! It'll do almost anything a .357 will do, with less recoil.

Yes, wouldn't want to deal with EAA either, although they're just the importer for the Tanfoglio-made Witnesses. That said, the 45acp K2s I've handle recently, which are made in Turkey by Sarsilmaz, looked to be well-built, sturdy guns. They're also large and heavy double-stack DA/SA pistols, but they exuded a quality feel which made me think that a K2 in 10mm could actually be a successfully-engineered example of a "CZ-pattern" pistol that 10mm fans have been waiting for since D&D filed bankruptcy in 1987. :scrutiny: Maybe at some point, if U.S. 10mm fans sent enough emails to Sarsilmaz, they'd tell EAA to accept the 10mm K2s for import or they'll find someone else to do it. We'll see, I guess, and as well with Grand Power's 10mm variant, a Slovakian product.

Had a 1006 long ago. Finally got back into the 10mm game last night; picked up a Gen 3 Glock 20.

Congrats on the G20.
I still shoot my 1006, although less frequently than I'd like due to lack of time generally and then spending what range-time I can squeeze in with my G29 or a rifle of some sort. Old pic of mine ... Got rid of the Hogues way back for the S&W factory "palm-swell" grips (made for the 1076/1026 models). The Hogues were okay, but over time I found them to be a little too girthy.

I too have handled the K2s and liked the feel and look. There were rumours floating around that it was actually Tanfoglio that put the kibosh on EAA bringing over the 10mm K2s.

Well, my thought on the 10mm K2s, initially, was that EAA might be prevented, by some sort of "non-compete" clause in their import or licensing agreement w/ Tanfoglio, from bringing in pistols "substantially similar" to the 10mm Witness-line, but obviously that hasn't stopped EAA from importing the .45 K2s that now compete for market share with the .45 Witnesses ... So, there must be another reason.

*** I have a 9x19 Grand Power and like it tremoundously. Great trigger, and one of the smoothest recoiling 9mms I have. Also very accurate.

Since you've got a GP 9mm, what's your view on the probable mag capacity of a scaled-up 10mm model? 12-15rds?

atblis
March 18, 2014, 10:05 AM
We should organize a call campaign bugging EAA until they bring the 10mm over. Call them up and ask for Paul. If enough of us call, maybe they'll change their minds.

I don't know about the capacity, but 12 to 15 rounds sounds about right.

Of more interest to me regarding the Grand Power is that it looks like they'll be making a 40 S&W and 357 SIG on the 10mm sized gun. 40 S&W loaded long is 10mm with stronger cheaper brass. 357 SIG loaded to 10mm length is a lot of fun too.

After always feeling like my ccw (9mm) or a 1911 in 45acp just wasn't a good match for predators or black bears I started doing some research. The new grip on the glock is a world of difference and so many bullets on tap! Maybe someone a little more savvy w/ physics could explain why the recoil isn't as significant as people claim. The first magazine I ever shot packed full of the Buffalo Bore 220gr. monsters (a couple of which had already yawed at 7 yds.) I was wearing gloves as it is winter up here in VT but still the recoil seemed equivalent to a 40. I did notice the slide is a heavy one, for sure. Still a glock though which means at the very least new sights but hey when it gets dirty I won't feel bad and it'll run.

I was wondering about that. It seemed like the recoil from the 220gr. was more of a push, ala 1911. Are the lighter grain loads at higher velocities more of a snap, like 40s&w??

agtman
March 21, 2014, 02:39 PM
Are the lighter grain loads at higher velocities more of a snap, like 40s&w??

Having shot some very hot 135gn (factory) loads, and one pretty spicy 150gn load, the answer is "No" with the G20, because, as with the G21, the large-frame (10mm/.45-size) soaks up whatever "snappiness" might be created by these fast-moving, lighter projectiles, even at 10mm velocities.

The "snappiness" complaint about .40 autoloaders arises from the fact that it's essentially a 9mm-sized gun, and most 165gn-180gn .40 ammo duplicates low-end 10mm energy for those bullet-weights.

In other words, the .40 puts low-end 10mm energy inside a 9mm-sized platform - hence, you hear people taking about .40 guns, and not just Glocks, having a "snappy" recoil feel.

Size, composition, & weight is why the G20 feels so nice...
polymer helps ease the felt recoil...
if you add a Hogue or other rubber grip, or even take a slice of bicycle tire tube
& install it around the grip, it'll be even nicer.

Also, the shooter's size & strength levels help manage recoil...
if one does arm & hand exercises at least three days a week,
they will find that after a few short weeks, Felt Recoil is reduced...
simply due to the addition of strength in the affected areas :)

Also makes trigger pull feel quite different...
meaning that what is heavy to one, will feel lighter to a strong person!!

There are some fine pistols on this thread! I have an older (gen 2) Glock 20 that I love. I tried a Lone Wolf 6 inch barrel, but it will not cycle reliably. It will only cycle Silvertips.

Happy owner of a S&W 1006. Bought it new a long time ago.

I don't hunt but love shooting & collecting 10mm's. From custom Delta's to Glock to S&W, and other , Been using 10's since the late 90's, I only wish that some company would make a compact 10, to use as a CCW, the Glock 29 is a little to bulky. Suggestions!

I decided I wanted a 10mm. Thought about a Delta Elite, thought about a Glock 20, even thought about a Glock 29. (Hey, I carry a .357 snub, how bad could the recoil on a G29 be?) I thought about a 3rd-generation Smith too, but figured I'd never see one around here, let alone at a good price. But then I found this little beauty and I couldn't turn her down, especially once I tried out that sweet, smooth trigger...

I own all of the above that you had mentioned, the best 10mm value out there in my opinion is one of the Witness models, I have owned them for many years now, theta are reliable, well made inexpensive, not a Delta, or a Kimber, but very strong clones of the CZ 75. I am sure that your Smith, will start your 10mm addiction.

New used 1076. I sent it to S&W for a good going over. Could be 9 - 11 months?

Sergei, you are SO going to enjoy that 1006. Of my entire collection (not a large on by any means) it's one of the three I would not give up. Here's a pic of mine.

I can't understand the lack of love for the LW logo, it's small and you almost have to look to see it. It isn't like the Glock is a work of fine art.
