What are your favorite pair of guns to shoot together at the range?

February 5, 2014, 05:36 AM
I normally like to take two of the same caliber to the range; My favorite pair are my Gen4 Glock 21 and my SW1911; how about you folks?

Usually some version of these (1911 and P-35):

I enjoy pitting my Beretta 92 against my HK USP. Both are great range guns that shoot and feels similar. Which is best.... ?

I do this with .22lrs all the time too. Which is better or more fun, the Walther, the Daewoo, the GSG? Is a new Bersa nicer than an old Beretta? I love these little unofficial side-by-side "shoot-offs". Lots of fun. :D

February 5, 2014, 08:51 AM
S&W 1911 and my XDs. Classic .45 meets modern .45

February 5, 2014, 09:15 AM
Give me a Ruger 10/22, a Buckmark .22 camper, a few cans of soda and a warm, sunny day, and I'm a happy man. :)

February 5, 2014, 09:32 AM
I usually bring a CZ 75B 9mm and my Remington R1 Enhanced 1911.

Another favorite snuck into this pic, my Beretta Cheetah 87

February 5, 2014, 09:35 AM
That would be Veritas and Equitas,,,
My matched pair of Ruger 22/45 Mk-III's.

I enjoy trying to "dual wield" these pistols,,,
If I alternate one round left then one round right,,,
I almost get to an acceptable level of accuracy on center mass.

If I try to shoot them at the same time like in the movies,,,
All I do is turn money into noise,,,
But it's fun none-the-less.

Any other time I go I almost always take a pair of handguns,,,
Usually it's one pistol in centerfire and another identical gun in rimfire.

My CZ-75B and CZ-75B Kadet are a good example.

50 rounds of 22 LR followed by ten rounds of 9mm,,,
That's a nice round of practice that isn't too expensive,,,
Repeat as necessary for however many rounds you want to expend.

I have several other rimfire/centerfire pairs of guns,,,
The same ammo routine is applied to them,,,
Lotsa trigger pulls for fewer dollars.

I like mixing it up. My 3" model 10 S&W and my worked over 1911, or maybe a CZ and a Python.

I'm more of an apples and oranges type of guy, not apples and apples. I rarely take two similar style pistols with me, unless I'm specifically comparing something.

I like to pair a big boomer with a little one. So, the 1911-22 goes along with the .45 1911. The SP101-22 goes with the .357 revolvers. The Nagant revolvers go with the Mosin-Nagant rifles.

February 5, 2014, 12:37 PM
1911 and BHP are my go to...

A plastic fantastic or wheel gun are my 3rd leg.

February 5, 2014, 12:53 PM
The ones I have the most ammo loaded for, but my G20 and Ruger standard are my fun guns.

February 5, 2014, 01:14 PM
My lightweight Springfield 1911 .45 and my 9mm lightweight Colt Defender. Shot them both at the range yesterday.

February 5, 2014, 05:25 PM
1911 and whatever else is avaiable.
One thing I have found is that if three of us are shooting, try to have one firing a wheel gun (no brass) and the other two firing different calibers, so the brass is not a separation issue! Can be quite confusing when three .45acp are spitting lead!

February 5, 2014, 05:33 PM
Beretta M9 and G19. I just enjoy seeing how hilariously large and heavy the M9 is, compared to the G19.

February 5, 2014, 06:29 PM
If paired by caliber, either my 10/22 and Beretta 71, or HP995 carbine and a BHP.

February 5, 2014, 06:36 PM
HK P7s and a lightweight BHP.

February 5, 2014, 07:05 PM
Currently it's my Henry Lever action .22 and my Heritage .22 single action revolver, but it's subject to change without warning.

February 5, 2014, 07:50 PM
For me, its usually a .45 (ether a Sig 1911 or P220) and my Model 10. Occasionally its a .357 or .44 as well or in place of the .45, but my trusty old Model 10 is always along for the ride.

February 6, 2014, 07:57 AM

February 6, 2014, 09:01 AM
My Henry 001L and Ruger Single Six .... both with .22lr

February 6, 2014, 07:52 PM
I wish I had pics but:

Most often it's my H&K P7M8 (or M13) paired with my H&K USP9 full size

But I have a new pairing that I'll try out this weekend:

My Smith PC 627 V Comp and Smith PC 629 V Comp

All pairs are always accompanied by my Benelli M95E Atlanta .22 LR

February 6, 2014, 07:56 PM
Usually a Glock 17 and a Remington 870P 12 Gauge.

Just my .02,

February 6, 2014, 08:50 PM
RIA "Tactical" 1911 in .45ACP and 9mm. My grip is not what it used to be so a 2-300 rounds of 9mm shooting steel plates after 1-200 rounds of .45ACP makes for a very nice outing.

February 6, 2014, 09:02 PM
Pair of 10" Ruger MKii's....One with sights. One with Burris Fastfire III.

February 7, 2014, 10:07 AM
2 favorites are my Rossi Stainless steel 2 1/2 inch barrel revolver .38/.357 and my Springfield Champion .45.
The Rossi revolver has functioned flawlessly since I got it new in 1986. I shoot mostly .38 through it at the range due to ammo cost. Once in a while will shoot 6 .357 just to remind myself how it feels to shoot .357 in the Rossi quite a difference! This Rossi looks brand new despite how many times I have fired it. Like all, I clean it right away after firing.
The Champion .45 is really my favorite because of its balance when I fire it. It's really a fine rugged pistol. Totally dependable.

Colt SAA, Colt 1911 and I must practice with my carry gun. Kimber UCC II. Sorry, but it must be three.

February 7, 2014, 10:33 AM
Service Model ACE .22 and 1911oid 9mm or .45.

Kadet .22 conversion and CZ75.

M18 .22 and M686 .357.

I have enough pre-panic .22s for a smallbore warmup before shooting centerfires.

February 7, 2014, 10:45 AM
+1 on the CZ75b and Kadet kit. If I pair up the same cartridge, it's a CZ82 with a Bulgarian Makarov. If it's same caliber different cartridge then I bring my CZ97b with a Ruger Bisley Vaquero in 45 Colt.

I know this is posted in the auto thread but my two favorite guns for the range are a pair of Colt 3rd Gen. SAA's loaded with a full case of 2f black powder in my CAS matches. I usually shoot Gunfighter category which means I have one in each hand banging away at targets. If it was autos it would be my 1941 Commercial Colt and my New Agent. Colt/Colt and Colt/Colt. I sense a pattern here.:)

February 7, 2014, 10:46 AM
Well, you asked favorite guns, rather than favorite autoloaders, so I guess the question is fair game despite the sub forum we are in.

My favorite pair would have to be my S&W model 19 along with Rossi M92 in .357mag.
One type of ammo, and two guns that are more accurate than I could hope to be!

Nothing gets more attention faster than shooting two Colt 1903 Model M's in .32 side by side or, at the outdoor Farm range, one in each hand...

My favorite pair.

February 7, 2014, 11:59 AM
I take one gun at a time with me or I find the range time useless.

February 7, 2014, 10:39 PM
I generally shoot the Colt diamondback guns. A 22 and a .38 special.

I sometimes take the S&W mod 19 snub and the 686.

If its rifles I'll take the .30 carbine and the M1 Garand.

My wife says she thinks it doesn't matter to me...so long as I get to the range. I agree...its just not often enough!

edit; After posting I remembered I was on the autoloaders page. So...sometimes its the Ruger .22 semi and the S&W dao .45 acp.

February 7, 2014, 10:50 PM
9" single six and 15" SAA .357 for cheap fun
44 mag super16 contender and taurus m44 for stress relief
Marlin 60 and the other two model 60s in this house. For fast paced longer range fun
Rem700 .270win and marlin 30a for days when my buddies think their rifles can shoot (I spank them with both guns regularly)
Rem m11 (1926) and hr American (1896) for days when I feel like being nostalgic
Taurus pt99 and itself with ceiner 22 conversion when I want to shoot and ride the motorcycle too.

I have too many favorites

February 8, 2014, 12:17 AM
Hi all, new to THR. I usually take my CZ-75B and my Ruger Mk lll. They're both stock and the CZ is just a really nice pistol and I shoot better with it than any other full size pistol.

February 8, 2014, 01:54 AM
S&W mod 28 .357, and my SA XD-45. Love the trigger on the 'smith, and love launching 1/2 lb of lead in 5 seconds from the XD ;)

February 8, 2014, 06:54 AM
one of my Sig P220s and an XDs.

February 8, 2014, 07:38 AM
I have two SA 9mm Sigs that travel together frequently - a Swiss Army P210 and an X-5 TAC TB. So similar, yet so different. It's not just me that enjoys the contrast of shooting these two together either.

February 8, 2014, 07:45 AM
Probably my two favorite range companions are my Colt Combat Commander and my Browning Hi-Power.

February 8, 2014, 07:55 PM
I've got quite a few as a matter of fact, depends on what kind of mood I'm in. I do like my Beretta 92FS, as well as my Springfield XD-40, not to mention my Colt Gold Cup National Match Series 70, I do like my S&W model 29, as well as my Ruger SBH in .44 Mag, also my Ruger 4" Standard model auto in .22LR, and my Browning Buckmark Hunter, now that's just my range guns, never mentioned my small autos, or my derringers in various calibers, or my S&W .357's, or my Colt Detective Special, etc etc etc.

March 10, 2014, 10:16 AM
My Walther P88 and my SIG P210-6. So different feel in the hand that it takes a lot of lead down the range to be proficient with both for the competition shooting (different guns for different disciplines) that I do.

March 10, 2014, 03:21 PM
S&W 1911 5" full size .45 ACP
& S&W 625 5" bbl. .45 ACP Full moon clips or .45 auto Rim

used to take the 625 with a 617 6" bbl. to
warm up with. but with scarce .22 I sold
the 617 look around for a 3"-4" 63
to pair with my Model 60 .357 3" bbl.

March 10, 2014, 04:50 PM
In addition to some identical pairs like my Ruger 22/45's and my Beretta NEOS',,,
I also have matching pairs in rimfire/centerfire.

Hawes SAA clone in .22 and SAA clone in .357 Magnum,,,
Charter Arms .22 Pathfinder and .44 Bulldog,,,
Bersa Thunder 22 and Thunder 380,,,
Beretta Model 87 and Model 85,,,
CZ-75B Kadet and CZ-75B,,,
Taurus 22-PLY and 25-PLY,,,
S&W Model 18 and 15,,,
S&W Model 34 and 36.

I'm a firm believer that lots of practice with the rimfires,,,
Translates to increased accuracy/proficiency with the centerfires.

Out of these 8 pairs The S&W 18/15, the Bersa Thunders, and the CZ's see the most range time.

March 10, 2014, 05:03 PM
S&W 5906 9mm and a Ruger Blackhawk 359mag/9mm

March 10, 2014, 05:54 PM
Favorite pairings:
Double stacks: P226 + .22 conversion and M11-A1.
Single stacks: P239 and EMP.
Rimfire: Mark III Hunter and Single Six Hunter.

March 10, 2014, 10:32 PM
Depends, if I'm going to the range to practice for upcoming competition, I'll take my G17 and G26, that way I can get work in on comp gun and CCW piece. If I'm going just for fun, I'll take my AR, M9, and Mossberg 590A1 and pretend I'm back in the sandbox haha

I know that last one isn't a "pairing", but they typically all go out at the same time

March 12, 2014, 12:53 PM
My Coonan .357 Mag (it's my winter carry) and my Kimber Custom Crimson Carry (my all season carry)

March 12, 2014, 05:34 PM
I like to shoot my H&K USP Compact .40 and after a couple of hundred rounds bust out the FN Five Seven. Fun to go from snappy to the easy recoil of the 5 7.

Definitely my CZ 97b SAO and P01.

Lucky Derby
March 14, 2014, 07:44 AM
A wheel gun & either a 1911 or P35.

March 14, 2014, 09:20 AM
For me, it's pairs in handguns, and a 22 rifle.

For semi auto day.....(Ruger day, I guess) it's the Mark III 22/45 and SR9c with a Takedown 10/22

For revolver day.....it's my buttery smooth S&W Model 10-5 and the less smooth High Standard Sentinel R-100 along with the old Mossberg 44USb.

I win, either way!
