Can I shoot centerfire handgun rounds at 1/4 AR500?

I just purchased this dueling tree designed for 22s:

http://www.custommetalprod.com/shooting-targets/dueling-tree/product/238-dueling-tree-22-rimfire

It's AR500 steel, 1/4" thick. Can I shoot 9mm, 40, 45 at it without damage? I would imagine that it wouldn't dent the plate but wanted to ask first before I ruin my brand new 200 dollar target.

Thanks

Betting they put .22 rimfire on there for a reason, but it's your tree so fire away if you want.

You will destroy it in short order.

Yep!

Look at the other targets on their website.

Yours is made from 1/4" plate.

The center-fire pistol targets are 3/8" plate.
The Cowboy targets are 3/8" plate.

The tactical targets may even be 1/2" plate.

1/4" will beat out, bend, and be ruined in short order beating & banging on it with center-fire handguns.

Reminds me of what I did to a .22 rated pop up target. Not sure the rating but it was 3/8''. I would only shoot .22 at your target. Not that a centerfire handgun bullet will go through but it will at least dent it up pretty well.

7.62x39 v.s steel plate. I pretty much knew what was going to happen :) The target did not work very well. No matter what distance or grain of .22lr I used, the targets would only bounce back a little bit and not lock down. So I shot it with my AK :)

Aaron, those are not AR500 steel. Those are mild steel, typically rated for handgun ammo.

I once had a tree rated for .22 rimfire. It got destroyed simply by using .22 WMR.
