My grandfather produced a pair of very strange cartridges. I'll snag a picture for you when I can but heres what I have sofar.

The case is 2" long, the bullet is 1.5"

Stamped on the bottom is the following.

47 F 2 CP

Theres a rifle that goes with these but I'm yet to see it.

Well, 2 inches is just about exactly 51mm, and that headstamp sounds military, so a wild a** guess would be 7.62 NATO (aka 7.62x51 or .308 Winchester).

The figure of 1.5" long for the bullet doesn't seem right; I know of no bullet in that approximate caliber that is that long. I can't identify the headstamp either.

I thought it was a .308 but when I tugged the bullet from the case it was way off for the .308 brass, too small.

Is that perhaps a 37mm rifle grenade?

I am going to try to describe a headstamp and see if it is like yours.

You may have to turn the case to match the description:

C
P on the left in the vertical position, as shown here.

4 7 at the top, with the numbers lying on their front sides.

F on the right, normal position.

2 at the bottom, also on its side.

If this matches, it is French, but the bullet should be 7.5mm, with the actual diameter of just about .308.

My source says "CP" is unknown, but is the maker of the case. F is the producer of the brass, also unknown. The 2/47 is the month and year of manufacture.
