I have for years done my pull assessment using a simple spring balance .. the sort you'd take with you when fishing .... it was adequate, if basic.

It has now ''walked'' (translated .. doofus here has mislaid it - seemingly permanently!!). :p

So .. who makes what's out there .. where, and how much? Suggestions would be useful.:)

i put my gun in a padded vice. unloaded, of course with the muzzle pointing up. i made a contraption that consists of a heavy wire bent to hang from the trigger. it is bent so it will clear the gunwithout touching anything other than the trigger. the wire is attached to an empty powder can with large holes cut into the top. i slowly trickle shotgun shot
into the powder container until the trigger trips. i then weigh the whole assembly on a kitchen scale. now i know what the trigger pull weight is. it works and it was almost free. it works for double action or single action modes.

One that I've had my eye on is the Lyman digital guage. I know Natchez and Brownell's sell 'em, haven't checked others yet. They seem to sell in the area of $45 to $55. I haven't seen any negative reports, and they seem to clear the stock OK. I am sure there are a number of others out there, but the RCBS and Lyman are the ones I've encountered.

the "store bought" trigger pull guages tend to stop a 12#. not enough for some double actions. i had an amt .45 ACP backup that was 'bout 40-50#. i would buy one that would go to 'bout 20 or so pounds.

I have the RCBS scale in the picture above. It works fine, but mine only goes up to 8 lbs., so it's useless for double action measure.
I have had mine for years, and I like it. Certainly better than a fish scale.:D

bdhawk, I have used the lead shot method that you describe
for many years and would not consider a spring type. The shot
method is more accurate than any spring type that I ever tried.
But, to each his own. I'm happy with mine.
