I know many folk swear by the 870 and even more so a Police Magnum, but
slug barrel in great shape
rifle sights
parkerized finish
no disconnect
no "Benelli thumb"
short stroke
7 + 1
significantly lighter
and , of course, getting some change back was nice!!

Enjoy, and no grumblings from me, the 870 fan. The 37 is one fine shotgun...
I know what M-1 thumb is, but Benelli thumb?

Know how you feel. I was ready to buy an 870P, but stopped by a gun shop I seldom visit on a Sunday and spotted a 37 DS Police Special the guy had bought, along with some others from an estate. Manufactured in 1977, blue finish, varnished stock and forearm, 20 inch, rifle sights, standard mag., sling swivels, no pad. I also saved some money over an 870P. Looked unfired, lot of dust from the closet. Cleaned it up and it shot really well.
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I prefer all steel machined parts, real walnut, short smooth stroke, good trigger, light weight, and all around handiness of this model.
I was involved in cowboy shooting for several years, used a Win. 97. Never had a problem with the lack of a disconnector shooting as fast as I could at steel targets. Pretty hard to beat a John Browning design.

I have a DS Police Special also, only disadvantage that I can see, is there isn't a way to directly chamber a round. Never thought about it until I took a cold weather shotgun course. The 870 guys could chamber up a little faster than I could.
Been looking for a 870P to go with the 37 tho. Mine's been hard chromed and had a synthetic forearm and PG, I took the PG off and put on a Choate pistol grip buttstock on.
