I've been following three forums for the past two years and honestly don't have time to follow anymore. TFL/THR for general firearms information. Rimfirecentral since I hotrodded a 10/22 in January of 2001 and needed lots of tips for that project and they were the best clearinghouse for that info at the time. Still are I guess, but they've been expanding into other rimfire related stuff in the past year or so. And Rugerforum since it dawned on me that Rugers make up half of my handgun collection now that I'm getting more into big bore revolvers.

February 5, 2003, 02:22 PM
Well, I probably belong to a half-dozen other forums, dealing in precision riflery, varmint hunting, and precision handloading. Like TFL, THR seems to be more city/survival/semi-auto oriented:what:
Nothing wrong here, of course, but not my prime interests. Good political info here too, and enough other info to keep my interest up. :D

THR for general firearms-related hijinks.
CZForum for CZs, which I love. I read alot more than I post., pure shooting technique, some very serious people hang out there. Ditto above.

February 5, 2003, 04:47 PM
My God!

Are you guys saying there are other places like this?

February 5, 2003, 04:49 PM
Since you didn't have a poll of "number of forums" rather a "which forum" type poll, the answers would be diff't. I belong to several forums and use them as reference material. I guess as a number, I belong to 7.

February 5, 2003, 04:50 PM
I signed up for guntalk and a few others but I mostly stay here. This is about as close to TFL as it gets.

February 5, 2003, 05:03 PM
Here and guntalk is all I visit. Guntalk has a lot of people that live in my area which is cool.

I mainly hang my hat here, I went to TFL many moons ago and got crossways with management :o so I left other than one or two posts when I needed some help on a project politically connected. In the time before "The High Road" I mainly hung my hat at

huntamerica (

It is mainly a hunting board, but the political section gets pretty interesting from time to time. I mainly post at political and the Hog hunting forums.

Oh and I have been known to pretend to be a demorat at some fascist boards, and call for the execution of gun owners and assorted other things, always trying to help their image, the <*&*(^_.

I like the people here, the feelings and expressions of the feelings of the people and on the net in general has changed in the last 3 or 4 years. I think a huge portion of the gun owning public who thought anyone who talked about confiscation of guns as wearing a tinfoil hat, has seen their ideals and feelings shift.

It is nice to be within the realms of what I feel are stand-up people, that is a rarity in todays world.

May God have mercy on their souls if they trifle with the collective culture represented here. They'd be making movies 20yrs from now about the last charge of the BATF brigade and name the movie, "Tamara's Mountaintop.":D

I co-host a Delphi Forum, "Firearms Law & Politics". I also belong to "Snipers Hide", and all the other Delphi Forums such as Florida High Power Shooting, and the attenuating drop-downs. I am a member of many other forums that address our issues. List upon request.

I liked the look of this Forum, and joined a couple days ago. I hope it pans out. Thanks,

February 5, 2003, 07:02 PM
My regulars:

The High Road - natural progression from TFL, lots of great people. Good variety of topics.

1911 Forum - my favorite pistols, also lots of good people

Ammolab - good no BS site for learning about real world ammo performance

The Armed Citizen - sort of a smaller TFL/THR. Some familiar faces over there.

Some I check but don't post a lot:

Park Cities - Cult of the P7, lots of good HK info

Walther Forums - good Walther info

Lurk at a few others, mostly when researching a specific topic.

THR, TAC,, 1911 forum, TedNugentUSA, Bladeforums, and of course FFF ;)

February 5, 2003, 07:57 PM
And, since I am retired I have the opportunity to peruse each of them on a daily or near daily basis. I find it to be an enjoyable, instructional, and stimulating way to communicate with others who share my interest/passion for firearms. Good shooting;)

February 5, 2003, 08:07 PM
I used to divide my time pretty evenly between TFL, GlockTalk, 1911Forum and CZForum, but since The High Road started, I spend 99.95% of my time here.

Probably because I've got so much "Administratin" to do around here.

In all seriousness, the TFL crew always seemed to be cut from a different fabric and I hope The High Road can live up to those standards over time!

The real reason I spend most of my time here is because this forum is not single brand/firearm specific, has the best moderators who keep things on track... and frankly, I feel that I have a vested interest in making as positive of a contribution here, whereas on the other forums, I'm just another face in the crowd.

February 5, 2003, 09:36 PM
The ones I hit every day are THR, Sniper's Hide, Gun-Talk, Sniper's Paradise, Pro-Shooter ( , Accurate Reloading ( ...

A few I get to once or twice a week...

Some I help out where I can (or admire the sight of my own written word), others I just sit down and shut up.

High Road of course (And gets most of my time)
CZ Forum
Russian Mosin Nagant Page Forums (Just needs more members)

I go to everynow and then, but its a little too wild over there at times.

OK... Who didn't vote for TheHighRoad? :p

I mostly just hang out here these days. I used to spend a lot of time over on the 1911 forum but made a conscious decision to spend less time there. Sorry Dana, just too addictive. :D

But am a member here, 1911Forum (, (, (, MilSurpShooter ( and several varmint, benchrest and reloading forums. Overall, great group of folks. Some I wish would just disappear, but that's true of pretty much everything and everywhere. I'm a member on GlockTalk but I rarely travel there anymore. I think it's just too... diverse of a groups for me.

I also have been known to go to the BMW section of (

February 6, 2003, 12:57 PM
Let's just say that I've been shooting since the mid-50s and have LOTS of questions I've accumulated over the years.

February 8, 2003, 09:36 AM
Interesting question, especially the "why" part.

The High Road - most diverse group of folks I've found (except TFL) and usually can find considered opinions of the widest variety of subjects. Also, good for at least one belly-laugh/day.

1911Forum - my favorite pistol. I'm hopelessly addicted and this forum has a great core of folks with more knowledge than I can hope to assimilate. Good reading and good advice.

Ruger MarkII & 22-45 Forum - went here initially for specific questions about my MarkII. I go back once in awhile to ask other questions. Too many pop-up windows to deal with, though. The format is also not to my liking. But, a fairly good resource.

Marlin Talk - have been considering purchasing a Marlin. Good place for information. - if you own a .22, you need to visit this forum. Excellent resource and fun bunch of guys.

HS2000 & SA-XD Talk - have been considering an XD-9. These guys are fanatical about this gun. Very informative.

CZForum - similar passion about the CZ guns. This might be the most civil, friendly forum I've found. And, that's no slam on anyone else. Just to say these guys are very helpful, very enthusiastic about their choice in guns and go out of their way to make newcomers welcome. - just started visiting (lurking) here. Lots of wonderful technical expertise. If you have a technical question, ask it here.

The Firing Range - of course, this started up right before the demise of TFL and it is a comfortable place to visit. Not a real large group of folks, but a come-as-you-are, take your shoes off and stay a spell type of place.

Tactical Forums - a more over-the-top hard core bunch of guys. Interesting and these guys are serious! - as already mentioned, THE place to go for up to date CCW laws. Usually some good topics to post to also.

Don't forget Yahoo Groups. I belong to 2:

IDPA - just what the name indicates. But, in addition to discussions of competition related topics, a lot of interesting general gun-related stuff, too. I like these guys (and gals) and since I am looking to get involved in the sport, it's fun to lurk here.

Concealed Carry - Probably the most interesting group of folks I correspond with. Every now and then they even talk about CCW! Mostly lots of sit-around-the-wood-stove discussions that are just plain fun to be a part of.

Seems like whenever I get ready to investigate a new firearm I find a forum and visit for awhile. Works for me.

February 8, 2003, 10:31 AM
I currently belong to 11, really only active on 4. Mostly for reference purposes.

I must admit to spending time on several forums..I was surprised to find so many different places to learn things about my favorite firearms..There are some new places that are interesting and some that are so new that they could use some of the nice people that spend time here to try to create some thing good there..One such place is the Team Bomar forum [].. I think it could be an interesting place..

February 9, 2003, 09:58 AM
I got the nickname from making an AR15 lower from a solid casting before the 80% recievers came about. It looks ugly but shoots good.

February 9, 2003, 12:21 PM
I voted 'other' too

Please see below :)

I apologize for the lack of choices I could have gone as high as twelve of them , but just didn't know the names of that many
it is a great adaptation of free speech don't ya think?:)

February 9, 2003, 11:24 PM
Here or here or there.

August 1, 2003, 06:58 AM
SigForums ???

I'm pistolwhipped on all except SigForums. Someone had that handle registerd. hmmmm. I'm Eddie Lee there. Very original ehh.

August 1, 2003, 07:08 AM
THR is where I hang out generally (and when I have time). I'm also signed up for the following forums that I check out occasionally, especially when I have particular questions or am looking for something specific:

August 1, 2003, 07:25 AM
TFL I still use a bunch.
THR (mostly)
TAC ( I lurk)
Belong to some others, but honest haven't logged or lurked in while.

Sven , you do a great job.

OT--I need a suggestion for a computer forum, anything like THR out there?

Sleeping Dog
August 1, 2003, 08:06 AM
THR? Never heard of it!

The others?, not much traffic there, mostly U.S.Military guns, news from Camp Perry, more old guns
gunboards, even more old guns

A few others occasionally

August 1, 2003, 08:20 AM

But even though I'm registered at others, I only have time to post at one and this is the site that I like the best - The others I use for reference most of the time if I have a specific question I'm researching.

Lurked at TFL for a while but it 'went away' before I registered. THR is the closest thing I've found to TFL.

August 1, 2003, 08:21 AM
Nobody has mentioned this one.

August 1, 2003, 07:06 PM
I'm here most of my own time online. Then I hang around half a dozen domestic sites, most of which also are firearms and politics -related. The rest is dogs, martial arts and professional stuff - mobile technology, enterprise information management and such.

August 2, 2003, 01:43 PM
THR cuz there's always someone who can answer your question. and its nice and polite. i don't like childish cursing and name calling. cuz, well, i like HK's and they don't slam my little USP when i sing its praises.

August 2, 2003, 10:35 PM

and some others I mostly just lurk on untill something catches my interest.

August 2, 2003, 10:41 PM
Because I own several different brands of firearms I hang out at alot of sites for info.
S & W
Rimfire Central
Bear Tooth

August 3, 2003, 12:11 AM

I kinda feel like THR is my "home" though. IMHO, it is the best quality board with the best quality people.

August 3, 2003, 12:13 AM
Member on 3 or 4.

Post and follow on just 2:

THR and GlockTalk

60% GlockTalk and 40% THR. That is lurk time. Posting is 90% GT.

There are a ton of knowledgeable people on GT, and quite a few here too.

I also seem to prefer BBs that run on vBulletin. (like this one does) Although, I don't understand the differences in the options on the same software.

On GlockTalk, there is a new forum, "Tech Talk" for computers and such.

Thanks for this thread. I didn't realize there were so many fora out there!
