Riflemen, our friend Art Eatman's father has passed away. Art will be away from his normal routine for quite a while, but he'll be poking his head in here occasionally, I'm sure. Please feel free to offer your support and condolences here. Art, we're with you.

Man, my heart just fell. There have been other passings/sicknesses with members on this and other forums but I almost feel like I am a personal friend of Mr Eatman and this one somehow seems different. Sad, but I interact with him more often than my own sister.
And I don't say this lightly, my sincerest condolences.

Sorry for your loss. Be happy that you had him for these many years. I lost mine when I was 5 and it still hurts 50 years later even though I never really got to know him as he was away in the service. Be thankfull that you had his wisdom and guidence for these many years. Lots of folks don't get that chance.

It is with sadness and regret that I learn of the loss of a loved one by Mr. Eatman.
It is something all of us must face sooner or later, but it doesn't help much to know others have experienced the same grief. I lost my father 20 years ago and still miss him.
Mr. Eatman, you have only my sincerest best wishes.

Hey, thanks, gang.
Call today "Closure", if you will. I pretty much thought my goodbyes a while back. The hardest part is watching a man who was both physically and mentally powerful, go into that long, slow decline.
Arthur William "Bill" Eatman was born on Groundhog Day in 1909. His father was an itinerant newspaper publisher; his mother was uneducated. She worked like the dickens and pushed and prodded for him and his older brother to get an education. They did.
He rose to become one of the top twelve in the Texas Highway Department hierarchy, running the Materials and Testing Laboratory for the last half of his 40+ years career.
He was in combat from D-Day until VE-Day, earning a Silver Star and a Purple Heart. Contrary to many, he came back to pick right up on his hunting. :) (Frankly, I think the ornery devil had a certain amount of fun during combat.)
So, civil engineer, warrior, mechanic, jack-of-all-trades, boat-racer, rancher, hunter/gunsmith/reloader and father. Respected for his honesty and integrity. It was thought of him that, "He never met a stranger."
He had a full life and lived it mostly on his own terms. I guess that's about as good as anybody can do.
He was indeed one helluva man.

From the sounds of it Art, the world is a bit lesser place without your father, but because his memory lives on in you, he still gets to pass his wisdom through you to all of us, and many of us consider that to be priceless.
