Someone tell me not to buy this

I was out helping the offspring pick up some tools yesterday and ended up at a pawn shop where I've bought many cheap Marlin/Glenfield mod 60's to fix and give to youngsters. The fella called me over and asked, "you looking for some more cheap guns?" Well, I wasn't but at the same time I always am, so I asked him what he had. He comes out with a Maverick 12ga and says he'll take 80 bucks for it. Well I told him I wasn't interested, I have pumps now that never see the light of day. But it keeps weighing on my mind. It seemed to be in great condition from what little I looked at it. And who couldn't use an $80 shotgun. Maybe I could slap abunch of ubbertactical stuff on it. PG, laser site, just goofy it up.

You know you need it for your peace of mind and soul... Go on, get it! :D

Get it, but omit the gadgetry. Clean it up, shoot a few rounds of skeet, trap or whatever to make sure it works and give it to a kid(With parental permission, of course) or youth group.

And kudoes!!

Dave, you read my mind. I was just thinking about a young lad who is currently shooting one of my cleaned up Model 60's. He's kinda a skinny thing, but he's got heart. I'll bet with reduced loads he could handle the 12. And I think you can buy a youth stock for them, but I'll have to check. Sounds like a worthwhile project and I might even get him to wash a dog or two for it.:D

You got to buy it to keep it out of the hands of the wrong kind of people.

It's as good an excuse as I could come up with. :uhoh:

I would have bought it for sure. That is the perfect 'loaner' gun and the one to give away if you know someone worthy.

I'm with the others, great for a loaner, perfect for a skinny kid with heart. 7/8 or 1oz loads to start him off. I dunno, about the youth stock, maybe Hogue?

To keep it - give it away
Each one - teach one

I got some good 7/8 oz recipes, O/C.

And doing something nice for someone is the only time "Because I can" is a valid reason....

You can buy the "Bantam" [youth-sized] stocks directly from Mossberg (Maverick Arms parent company).

Hogue's also has the shorter length of pull stock for the Maverick/Mossy.

p.s. Buy the Maverick, decide you hate it, and sell it to me for $1 :neener:

Okie:

You came HERE asking for someone to tell you not to buy a shotgun?

This is a place to find good reasons TO own a shotgun. You've got several and all of them good ones from where I sit. ;)

Went early this moring to pick it up, only to find that someone listening in on the original offer bought it 5 minutes after I walked out. Problem is, now I'm in buy mode. Almost bought one of the several Mossy 500's they had for $129. Must fight these impulse buys.
