What is an appropriate 1st place award?

As several members here know, I'm a match director....and this week I am faced with the daunting task of ordering trophies to award my shooters for their stunning achievements on match day.

I'm considering ordering plaques to commemorate the fact that club members won in SSP, CDP, and ESP and the CDP champ is the IPSC director, whose birthday was on match day.

Is "Grand Poobah - CDP Divison" a little too much?

Also - anyone know where there are some specimen shooter awards I can look at to get an idea of what we need?

Well, I've noticed that in Hollywood, when the hero has finished shooting, he normally gets the girl - does that give you any ideas? ;)

I can do poses in the Grecian style with like a penut shell and a rubber band making it suitable for a family audience...or maybe even holding up say a Jennings 9mm with the caption "Catapultam habeo. Nisi pecuniam omnem mihi dabis, ad caput tuum saxum immane mittam"

Wild, you forgot the Vestal Virgins holding fruit-baskets in a tasteful (and modest) arrangement about your naked midriff... :D

How about an authentic copy of that SWAT cover with Skunkabilly on it, signed by Mr. Tacticality himself?

Somebody call? Oh yeah, trophies. :)

Depending on your budget, my favorites right now are any of the acrylic awards and the laser engraved Alder wood plaques. Alder is cheaper and lighter than walnut but makes a very classy award. If you order acrylic, ask about the half inch thick awards, they are much cheaper than the thicker ones.

As for shooting trophies, you have to get a little creative. There are a couple of shooting figurines still out there, but they are limited to bullseye or police figures. There are a very few medals or medallions available also. However, if you can find a shop that will work with you, practically anything you can create or find on your computer can be engraved on metal, wood, or acrylic.

Depending on your local economy, you should be able to find decent plaques in the $15-$40 range.

Here's a link to one of my main suppliers catalogs. This is a parts catalog, but there are some engraved and finished samples shown: http://www.continentaltrophies.com/catalogdownload.html

(sm, mom is doing great, better than anyone expected. Her and dad worked an antiques show all weekend (they are dealers). She spent most of 16 hours on her feet. She was tired last night, but she says the hip feels great.)

How about a cast acrylic block with the typical cartridges of each class embedded in it with a lazer etching of the award on the out side.
I.e. put in some .357, 38 spec, 44 spec and a couple of 45acp in the mold and have them engrave the outside with winner of SSP and the place and the date.

perfesser, good idea. Used to be several dealers doing this in Arizona, for whatever reason.

Do a web search on "acrylic embedments" as this is a fairly specialized process.
