Welcome aboard. Try using the search feature with key words Saiga, and Corriea as the author.
Consensus seems to be it's a reliable, inexpensive shotgun for "Serious" use. Not a great quail gun.

Its a semi-auto shotgun with all the advantages and disadvantages of an AK. The trigger is mediocre. The sight radius is short. The ergonomics take some getting used to. Aftermarket support is poor in the US. Its reliable. Its inexpensive. You can miss really fast with it.
My brother owns one and I've shot it once or twice. He's shot clays with it and it works pretty well. He's happy with it. I'd rather have a good pump gun myself.

As Dave said, do a search under my name. I probably have more rounds through the Saiga than most.

Thank you very much.
It is a bittersweet moment as I have found out that us Californians can't have one.

I too own a Saiga that I love to use for "sporting purposes" :)
I have one concern about using it for "serious use" For HD, do you think keeping it constantly loaded would be likely to warp or flatten the plastic shotgun hulls. Mine gets semi regular (pun intended) use, so I've never had it sit any more than a month or so, and I don't keep it stoked up as my primary HD. Once I left my mags loaded out of the gun and they sat for a month or two. No ill effects were noticed.
But that was my 20ga ( I'm looking into a 12ga currently) so the shells may be more resilient to the "squash" factor.
And it was an "out of gun" experience. I'd worry that pushed up against the bottom of the bolt and additional compression might make it worse
And it was a relatively short time. Longer might do the trick.
I've thought about buying some metal cased rounds just for HD duty. Am I too paranoid? You know your not really paranoid if they really are out to get you .....
BTW, I_AM_HERE.... Sorry to hear about your sorry "state" of affairs.

Honestly I don't know if the shells would squish over time. I have not tried it. My home defense shotguns are 870s kept cruiser ready.
I would imagine that they would be okay, but there is only one way to find out. :)
