KY: Now Requires CLEO Sign NFA Transfer in 15 Days

(Normally something like this would go into legal, but since this is NFA specific and relevant to this section. I think it would be better if I post it here in the NFA forum...I would cross post it at legal, but I think that is against forum rules)

http://www.nraila.org/legislation/state-legislation/2014/4/kentucky-comprehensive-pro-gun-reform-signed-into-law-last-week.aspx?s=&st=10481&ps=

"Senate Bill 232, sponsored by state Senator Brandon Smith (R-30), requires that a chief law enforcement officer (CLEO) sign an application for the transfer of any item regulated under the National Firearms Act (NFA) within fifteen days if the applicant is not prohibited by law from receiving it. By removing any possibility of personal bias and creating a statewide standard, SB 232 protects the rights of law-abiding gun owners across the Bluegrass State."

Excellent news. Now we need to start working on SC. My county Sheriff won't sign for political reasons. His answer when asked was "I know and trust you, but what happens when somebody steals that machine gun and shoots up a school? The first thing the media is gonna say is Sheriff Bryant allowed him to buy that thing".

Did no good to remind him that he wasn't signing to ALLOW the purchase, he was signing to state that he knew of no reason that I would be prohibited from purchasing it. And it was a suppressor, not a "machine gun" :cuss:

Ky did get some good stuff in the new firearm related legislation. Also, we now have electronic application and renewal for CDWL, now 15 days instead of 60. The 35 page bill is worth a read if you get a chance.

I got my CLEO signatures back in 1 and 3 days, and I live in uber-liberal Louisville!!! I guess our sheriff is more pro 2nd A than most of the dingdongs in this area. Still glad that this and the other pro 2nd Amendment bills passed this week!

This is great news for Kentuckians in Lexington (Fayette County) and Frankfort (Franklin County), where the sheriffs would refuse to sign off.
