so i'm thinking i can buy a .22 top end and build a 1911 frame, instead of changing out the slide everytime i want to change calibers....
these slides are supposed to be "Drop In" fit, anyone actually have one of these conversions?? and was it "Drop In" or did you have to do any work to it?
more Q's to come....
:uhoh:

I'm not sure which kit you are looking at, but I bought a Ciener top end, and it worked on 2 out of 3 1911 frames I had at the time.

The .22s are mostly drop-in, even the very accurate Marvel.
It is getting the 1911 lower right that will require careful work and knowhow.

I just put a Colt conversion on an Essex frame, and everything worked OK, though I had to take down the rails as they are made a bit oversize for fitting. The GI internal parts I used fitted fine. Trouble is that today, a lot of parts are not to spec and some frames are not either. So it is a crap shoot as to whether parts are really "drop in" or will require more or less fitting. (The Essex comes with the spring tunnel, grip screw bushings and ejector; the latter is not well made, but doesn't matter as the conversion unit has its own ejector.)
