Oh I HATE it when this happens.

I am in buyer’s hell. For the better part of however long it’s been that I’ve been itching to buy another pistol I have wanted a Sig P228. Over the weekend I had a chance to try it – LIKED IT! My instructor also let me pop off a few from his HK usp compact .40. LIKED IT TOO! This was a surprise because I have never paid much attention to the HK.

Both fit my hand well. The SIG has better aesthetics. I really like those Sig lines. The HK has exceptional balance but the front strap checkering on the HK was not as comfortable as the Sig grips. The Sig has fewer external controls. The DA/SA HK has some interesting features. Aside from that I was impressed with both guns.

So now I am in buyer’s hell. I was all set to get that Sig and I am still leaning that direction for it is the one that calls to me. But now I’m all confused – like a computer geek who must suddenly chose between two college cheerleaders I am overwhelmed and unable to choose.

No! Getting both is not an option!

You guys think I should just flip a coin?

I have both a SIG P225 and HK USP 40 in my collection so I am no help in this decision making!

I like the mag release of the HK more, so I would lean in that direction before the SIG truthfully.

Buy Both....

Okay, now that is out of the way. I think it depends on what YOU prefer. If polymer doesn't bother you and you would like to have the ability to carry cocked and locked, go with the HK.

If you would rather have an all"steel" gun and like the DA/SA trigger, go for the Sig.

Personally, all things being equal, I would go for the HK. I like the CNL capability and I also have never been excited over a Sig. I have always thought they were overpriced for what they are.

Of course, you could avoid all of this and give in to the dark side by buying a Glock 23. Lighter weight, less expensive, hicaps are easier to find, more consistent trigger, less expensive, I could go on and on.

Get the Sig. Its what you wanted originally. You know you like it. There will be no remorse. The SIG has better aesthetics. I really like those Sig lines....and I am still leaning that direction for it is the one that calls to me.

You said it not me! Then start saving up your money for the HK.

Now, on to the cheerleaders...:D

Go for the Sig!

To me the 228 feels more "compact" than the USP Compact. Even the USP compact feels bulkier than the some fullsize guns. Also I find the Sig to fit me better ergonomically. Since you mentioned the USP and it has a light rail, how bout' a Sig with a light rail on it also. I've been fascinated w. guns with lightrails recently. Excuse me for that.

May I show you the 229R Two tone. I find it quite sexy myself. :D

Get the Sig - I bet you'll regret having to wait umpteen months AGAIN to save up for it.
I have one - my 1st gun, in fact. LOVE IT. Sweet, sweet shooter. Grips that feel like putting on warm socks straight from the dryer. It just doesn't get better.
Do not have an HK; understand it's a great gun - but you want to milk that lust as well for a while. I think they're a bit bigger grip and a bit heavier as well, but you handled it and would know.

My $0.02.

USPC, slip on a set of Hogues. It seems like the Hogues were made especially for the USP the way the checkering matches up with the cobblestone rubber.

Either way you can't lose as they're both great firearms.

I'll take the Sig, and a pair of these :D

Go to the store and look at both, then get the one with the most odd numbers in the serial number.

There you go, problem solved, have a nice day.;) :p

Assuming they both fit and shoot equally well for you... Do you want the manual safety? If so, USP is a clear winner. If you are iffy about it... or think it's nice because it's an "extra feature" I would go with the SIG. Messing around with uncocked/unlocked and cocked/locked might not be a good idea. Sure you could change the variants, but I would do that only if I reeeealy wanted a USP set up like a SIG... of course, there is the P2000 also...

cheers

After a brief flirtation with insanity which caused a brief departure from my senses I was reminded of the reasons I was seeking a new gun in the first place.

For the purposes of keeping my other 9mm company.
For the purposes of spreading the use between guns.
For the desire to standardize my handgun ammunition.
For the economy of 9mm
For the purpose of IDPA
For the desire to avoid external controls
To not have to guess which condition my gun is in when it clears the leather.
For its aesthetics
For its reputation
Durability
Comfort.
Fit.

I have no choice but to go with my original choice.

Sig Sauer P228. TA DAH!! Thanks for everybody's help.

As for the cheerleaders........

Tuner,

Now I know where "I'm waitin on a call from two cheer leaders came from". Duh, on my part. :D Hey, who knows it could happen. [IN OUR DREAMS]:D The wife better not see this. I'm in the dog house now for buying too many .45's. :cuss: Sometimes ya just can't win.

Back to the original question. Get the Sig. While your at it, get a couple of SA'S, a Valtro, a Colt, and a couple of Kimbers. Then you can join the rest of us gun addicts in the dog house. [that is, if you're hitched] :)

good luck, and be safe.

Amadeus,

Sounds fair to me. Like the old TV program, 8 is enough:D Although 16 is better.:)

good luck, and be safe.

Glad you got the SiG. You'll be happier in the long run. Beware the redhead. I'm still in a 12-step redhead recovery program.

Take the brunette.

Less chance of a mismatch on the numbered parts.

Long ago, when we were first married, my wife swore that if I brought my guns into the house she'd leave. Needless to say I was extremely disappointed to discover that she wasn't a woman of her word. :(

However on the plus side she did learn never to make me choose between them. :D
