Why Do They Do This?

I just had a conversation with a Graduate student that is majoring in History. The young lady kept pounding away at "Western" society and our "Imperialist" policies. I have had many of these converstaions with many people where they want nothing more than to bash themselves.

Why is there so much self loathing in the Universities today? Why do people think that it is morally wrong to be strong? Why do they malign western culture?

I just can not understand these people. I am around them all the time, and I can finish their sentences for them, but I still can't get into their heads. Many explain this as jealousy or guilt, but I think that this does not go far enough.

Any thoughts?

Just a guess, but maybe they feel bad for being lucky enough to be born here. Just think, through an accident of birth, you are lucky enough to be born into (One of) The Greatest Nations in the World(The one of is for the benefit of Kobun and our other foreign friends).

So. Here you are, raised with a standard of living MUCH higher than 80% of the rest of the worlds population. So, of course, some of us are going to feel guilty about our luck from time to time. What do you do?

Well, either you can go out and try to make the rest of the world a better place, OR...you can go blame the country that put you in such a pampered situation for making you so sucessfull. Which do you think would require more work; trying to work to improve the situation, or sitting in a classroom and blaiming the Government(and people LONG dead) for letting things happen this way?

What these people just don't understand is that in every game, there is a winner, and a loser. For what ever lucky reason: God, Karma, or just plain the wackiness of the Universe, they were lucky enough to not only be picked by the winning team, but they get to right to complain about how lucky they are!

:fire:

Of course, these are the same people that insist that kids on a last place team get some kind of ribbon just for participating(which I'm okay with...you wouldn't BELIEVE the collection of 'Participant' ribbons I have at home).

Man...between that rant, and finding out there are no more M-1's with VAR barrels left...I'm about done in for the day.

I have seen that attitude a lot in undergraduate and graduate students. To be honest, I think this is merely a way for them to try and express their intellectual superiority. Look at all the benefits they get 1. they get to act different than the majority 2. they get away with a good amount of shoddy philosophical debates ( tell me an easier stance to defend than "I am wrong because my culture and upbringing is wrong" 3. professors love intellectuals that challenge current notions. I guess I stand against the grain in the universities because I love the United States. We are a strong nation with strong ideals and the government allows each individual to express themself as they choose. Whats better is that the extremely anti-American people stay in America to express themselves using their rights given to them by the United States of America.

Because the 'institutions of higher learning' have been taken over by the Marxist/Elitist/Socialist ideology who are propagandizing this philosophy as fast as they can. They are the 'enemies within'. They pervert the truth, revise history and flat out lie repeatedly, knowing that the gullible young will believe them.

They hate this country and will do everything and anything to destroy it.

Beyond that, and the fact that they are self loathing and mentally disordered, there is no explantion.

It is self-loathing.

We are the richest, most productive, and, not by coincidence, have the most freedom of anywhere on earth. These people, who have been taught that "the common good" is morally superior to self interest. When they see self interest as the cause of our wealth and power, they are sure it must some trick, some scam, some gross inequity.

It goes something like this: we are only rich and powerful because we exploit the third world, or use "more than our fair share" of resources, or because of the trilateral commission controlling the money, ...........

It goes against everything they know and believe that average, free people make decisions every day that further their own self interest and, by doing so, make opportunities for others. It really burns them up.

A fun response to charges of imperialism is:
"Of course we are. It's because we're superior, and they're barbarians".
It's exactly what the accuser/questioner expects to hear, so why not give them what they want? At the very least, it ends prematurely what would probably be a rather disagreeable conversation.

There has to be more to it than guilt. This seems to be a pathological malady that is spreading like a wildfire.

I mean, does it not go counter to the normal survival instinct that most folks have? It just seems so stupid to me. I mean, look at us. We are on top of things right now (so far as I can see), but these moronic blissninnies would just give our hard won upper hand away. Do they think we would be better treated by other "cultures" if they dominated us?

It would not bother me so much if these wimps would just keep their crap within university borders, but it is leaking out into public policy realms.

GGGGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR :cuss: :banghead: :barf:

Sorry for the rant, but this bugs the heck out of me.

Question: "Why is there so much self loathing in the Universities today? Why do people think that it is morally wrong to be strong? Why do they malign western culture?"

Answer: Because they've never had to "earn" their freedom, had it given to them through birth. They never had to live in a third world dump dreaming of something better....and get a chance to see how socialism really works...

It is self-loathing.

Yep—and they have good reason to loathe themselves.

People don't learn any better when they are young and in govt schools. Then they get to college, and they get suckered in to whatever political philosophy feeeeeeeeeeeells good to them.....

Elementary/high school teaches you to obey, not how to think

With most college re-educated people, all a college degree proves is that mommy and daddy had the money to send them to college.

Riley got it right. The socialists/communists have infested the education system, and are using it against the rest of the country. What better, more sure way to destroy a country than to destroy the minds of ALL future generations?
