Going to try some fancy coated boolets in a 45 colt cowboy action.
Anybody have any thoughts??

Powder coated? I haven't tried any yet, but there's a huge number of people on the Cast Boolits forum that swear by it. I have to admit I'm getting intrigued.

I have been shooting them for years and have been coating my own cast bullets for a while.

Lower cost than jacketed and plated but you don't have the wax and smoke of traditional cast bullets.

I did one powder coat batch but decided it would be too slow for much volume and it also left the bottom uncoated.

The HI-TEK coating is what I use now.

A guy that I shoot USPSA with uses them exclusively. They do not smoke like lead bullets, I would say they are like a cheaper version of a thin plated bullet.

I use the Hi-Tek coating and think it is excellent. I was going to use powder coat and bumped into a guy at Harbor Freight when I was about to pick up some stuff who informed me that aluminum oxide is in powder coat. He said it is hard and imagined that it would cause accelerated barrel wear. I have been using the Hi-Tek ever since w/o complaint.

Hmmmm. I was planning to use powder coated bullet for .300 BLK but looks like I need to research this further.

Here's an interesting read on aluminum oxide/oxidation - http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?194372
