Does anyone know when the Benelli M4 Super 90 will be available on the civilian market, date wise ??..

The Benelli USA website states, " The U.S. Marines have first call on this new gun. Once those orders are filled, the M4 Super 90 will be available to law enforcement and civilian buyers."
Have these military orders been filled yet? :)

Gun's out right now, I saw one in a Baton Rouge shop in mid-January. Big differences between the USMC's model and civilian model are that the mag tube is crimped for less capacity (5+1, I think) and that the buttstock is removable, but not collapsable.

It's a very comfortable shotgun to hold.

My regular gun shop had gotten 4 late last year. They had sold 3 and was holding the last one for me to look at and possibly purchased. (I've purchased some higher end stuff from them before and they treat me above average for it.)

Although the gun looks very much like the M4 (1014) pictured there are a couple major differences. The stock is fixed in the extended position and held that way by a couple screws, IIRC. This I could live with but would have preferred a solid stock. Not sure if the M1 pistol grip stock would simply drop in as a replacement.

What put the gun on my 'do not buy' list is that, because of the stock configuration, the mag is not full capacity. The magazine does not extend all the way to the end where the barrel nut screws on near the muzzle (as pictured). The functional part of the mag stops well short of the muzzle. To extend the mag to the end so that the barrel can be attached with the nut, a non functioning extension is attached to the end of the functioning portion of the mag to the muzzle. I'm not aware of any offerring from Benelli to swap out the faux collapsible for a standard one and replace the 4+1 mag for a 6+1. The mag does not seem to be as easily replaceable as an M1 or M3, though, as it is directly screwed into the receiver.

I passed on it. Maybe if it came as a 6+1 or 7+1 and a standard stock.

I live out in the toolies and haven't had a chance to see one yet..
the mag is not full capacity
This is probably the main reason that I won't buy one..

Thanks guys, for the info. ...:)

Looking at the catalog, a rifle grip and extended tube exist.

I wonder if cleaning this thing will be a hassle compared to the M1S90.

It'll be a perfect match for my P7M8, being HK combat gas!

Just spent last weekend shooting a 2-day course with a guy & his new "M4gery". Plugged mag tube so it only holds 3 shells. Non-retracting stock. Pricey gun for what you get.

It was kinda heavy and beat up the guy's shoulder. He had to stop at times as well as switch to birdshot when we were using buck.

It looked kinda lame up close.

I had my Beretta 1201fp and they both used the same reciever. I guess this is another reason why they took the 1201fp off the civilian market. The M4 just added PG & stock and had a rail system on it.

None of us were really impressed with it, especially the guys who've been around shotguns for decades.

Greetings,
I have two M4S90/M1014's, #0420 and #0437. Best weapons I've ever owned. My gun dealer still has one in the shop, as of 1600 hrs yesterday. If you still want one of the last of the 2500, call him Wednesday, 02/20/03. Send me a private email for info. No, I don't work for him, although what I've bought over the years would almost make me think that he works for me! LOL. Same cheek weld as my Armalite match carbine, with same recoil, when using 3" slugs... Accuracy is extraordinary. Easiest to maintain, and easiest to use... Total reliability, though I do NOT reccomend using "Law Enforcement" or low recoil ammo... These beauties function best with full power ammo... Anything under 125 yards is no problem... Mine are like the picture on the url below- without the 2shot mag extension, doggone it...

The Meprolight 21 Reflex sight is superb, easier to maintain than the ACOG, and has same aiming dot for both tritium and fiber optics... Rules the no light/low light CQB arena... Also, both my beauties have Meprolight night sights (factory) complimenting the ghost ring sights... I'm a very happy shotgunner...

Wildalaska,
Were it not for the strange and odd positions one finds oneself when shooting CQB, the pumpgun could reign supreme. However, try shooting prone, using a pumpgun to rapidly, and accurately, engage multiple targets... Not impossible, but not easily accomplished... Far easier to use a good autoloader... Remington and Winchester, both, make good shotguns for this purpose... If it comes down to it, my two Benelli M1014's are the way for me to go...

Schuey2002, have you seen the new m4 super 90 they have at shotshow? It doesn't have the pistol grip, but it has a full magazine tube and if the AW ban goes away you can just add the retractable stock later.

Now that's a more interesting model. I think that the pistol grip would be worth giving up to get the extra capacity.
