Shift in carry method.

I've been carrying for a little over 3 years, now. Got my permit as soon as I legally could. I've been fairly lucky in the holster department, and don't have the drawer full of useless holsters. I did a lot of research before purchasing any holsters, and read what the more experienced had to say on the forums.

So I have 3 holsters for my current carry gun, a commander sized 1911. I have my IWB- a Galco Summer Comfort, my OWB- a pancake by Clament Customs, and a shoulder rig- also by Galco.

Typically I carry IWB/OWB at around 4 o'clock. Always seemed to be the best for me in regards to comfort and draw times. Concealability isn't really an issue for me, I live in an OC state and occasionally carry in that manner.

But, the other week I was on my way home from work and needed to stop at an establishment that I figured might not be ok with me carrying. I was also wearing a smaller fitting t shirt than I would usually need to conceal properly.

So I stopped to think about it before leaving work, deciding whether to just toss my gun in the glove box or not when it hit me. What about appendix carry? I'd never tried it, but figured it'd be worth a shot.

Actually, I believe this is the manner Bruce Nelson originally designed his Summer Special (what my Summer Comfort is cloned from) to be used in. It was 10x more comfortable than I thought it was. After a little adjusting it was actually just as comfortable as my typical 4 o'clock carry. I was able to conceal under a medium t shirt, where as I typically wear a large.

So the past week or so I've been experimenting with it, practicing drawing and dry firing from this position, and I think I may make a shift to carrying in that manner. I still have some more dry practice to go before I feel comfortable taking it to the range and trying it out, but I'm gaining a lot of confidence in the transition.

I like appendix carry too.
More comfortable than 4:00 (for me) and very easy access when sitting in the car

I noticed this, as well. I definitely liked this added bonus.
