Got a new laporte autotrap :-)

I am having a ball with a new Laporte electric trap I bought. I got it with wireless voice release. This is the TAH 85 pro with the built in wobble feature. This is a far cry from the manual traps i have used most of my life. I would highly recommend this trap to anyone. At the end of last year I bought a Beretta 868 E sporting O/U so obviously i needed an electric trap to go with it. I like to shoot trap by myself from time to time and the manual trap was a pain.

Great! Now buy targets, shoot to pieces, repeat. And wobble is so much fun.
Did you mean a 682E? Great shotgun, for the pump challenged(G)...

That's cool :D I've been kicking around the idea of buying an electric trap for sometime now. With grouse and woodcock few and far between , I still like to shoot flying things in the woods out back, and It's just a hassle to handle a manual trap by myself. Does your model run on household current ? voice actavation must be really cool, If you don't mind whats a ballpark cost ?

Dave - The beretta is a 686 E sporting.

Huntsman - here is a link to the one i bought. i picked this one as it is the only one with a .5 second reset time and wobble all in the same machine. the engineering on this thing is fantastic. the speed at which this thing resets in incredible. the unit runs on a 12V deep cycle car battery. i usually just put the battery back on the deep cycle charge when i am done shooting to bring it back up to 100% charge.

i paid about $3000 including shipping from virginia for the trap and the voice release. the wireless voice release is the laporte DV1. the voice activator has a receiver on the trap and a small radio transmitter that clips to your belt. you can either just push one of the buttons on the tranmitter to release or use the microphone to release. when you push the button with the mic attached the unit arms for 7 seconds awaiting voice release. if you do not call for a bird within that time the unit resets for safety and you would have to push the transmitter arm button again.
the tah 85 pro is so quick to reset that you can simulate a 'flush' of birds. just hold down the button and you can put 5-6 birds in the air at one time if you wish. the wireless laporte voice release can be armed to throw singles or doubles on voice command. very nice when you want to do some shooting by yourself. the unit holds about 85 std birds in one magazine.
i seem to be able to keep the local wal-mart cleaned out of the winchester white flyer birds at $3.97 for the 90 cnt case though.

Oh Boy, Flurries!! Fling 50 clays while two guys try to load and fire, hitting all. Great fun, and terrific training.

warddc,
You have a very nice set up !!
FWIW See if a range or club will allow you to place an order when they do...see what kind of price. Besides a garage is designed for a pallet of birds not a vehicle.
I would suggest staying with White Flyer Clays, better clay IMO than Blue Rock clays...
Dave- I like Flurries.
We gotta get Correia to do Flurries .:D
IIRC we had 4 LaPorte's throwing eveything from crossers, quartering, straight - a-ways...Only allowed 3 in the mag...A 3 man team with 125 birds...It goes by kinda quick...and in your dreams you keep seeing them:D
Shot 3 rds of this in one day...heck I wanted to try the night version...that is really cool. I'm still gonna do that...
It is HARD to NOT shoot the green target -penalty( you want to shoot anything) but bonus pts for the white targets ( 3 fella's hitting a white target is POOF!)
No points or penalties for dragonflies or bumble bees...thank goodness. You just think a dog gets birdy. :D
If it flies - It dies

It certainly does have a quicker reset time than the hand throwers.
What exactly is wobble trap?

a wobble trap is a trap that will change position in elevation or azimuth or in this case both. the laporte tah 85 pro can be set to do either or both automatically. that means every bird comes out at a different angle and elevation. the laportes horizontal range is about 90 deg and its vertical range is about 45 deg. it does a nice job of random positioning. the postioning is driven by the same motor that cocks the arm. keeps it from getting boring throwing a bird to the same location in the sky each time.

Dang that is cool. I've said before, my trap experience is rather limited, most of it has been done with the cheap red plastic hand throwers.
sm, me, you, and Dave, should try flurries. :) That sounds like a blast.

OK. my brother-in-law and i tried the flurries thing this afternoon. we couldn't keep up! this thing puts them out at 2/sec. we were using over-unders. it was fun while it lasted though! birds were EVERYWHERE, lead was flyin'. i could get used to this. i need more gunners though.
