I saw 2 HP's today...one $650, the other $750. The difference was adjustable sights. Seem to be in nice condition. I'm thinking I need a steel HP in the mix
Comments, suggestions?

Hi-powers are great guns but you can find them WAY cheaper.

I guess my big question is "Is the HP about $250 better than a CZ?" I've seen CZ's in the $400 range and from all accounts, they are nice guns....I'm so confused...my head hurts :uhoh: :scrutiny:

oops, I see that you're in California...
I'm so sorry.
Well, you should still be able to find them cheaper than that if you look around a little.
CZ's are GREAT guns without a doubt. Many prefer the CZ to the hi-power. I am a hi-power nut and still love the CZ. If funds allow, get both and play with them. Keep them both or get rid of whichever one you don't like.
I started out years ago with a hi-power and a Colt 1911. I bought, sold, traded, etc. many, many handguns in my quest for the gun or guns that were "perfect" for me. I probably went through 50 handguns over the last 10 years or so. What do I carry and shoot now? A hi-power and a 1911. Go figure.

The proper question should be...do I care about $250 in the context of buying a the best 9mm pistol out there??
Price around and buy the HP...you wont regret it..

I can say that the HiPower fits my hand better, and that difference may be why I shoot it better than the CZ.
OTOH the CZ (or at least mine) came with a better trigger than my '94 HP. My '84 HP has a very crisp trigger. Doesn't seem to affect my shooting though.
Both the CZ and HiPower are classic designs.
The CZ has a stronger frame. Look up Mr. Camp's precautions with the HP. Unless you shoot a steady diet of +p or +p+ this shouldn't be a factor.
I say get the HiPower. The CZ is in more plentiful supply, while the FN HiPowers are not as nicely finished as the Brownings. I see mixed reports about whether original capacity (13 round) Browning magazines will work in FN HiPowers.

The BHP's size is somewhere between the full sized and compact CZ's. The frame on the HP and the CZ compacts are virtually identical in size. But the HP slide is about the same size as the full sized CZ.
So, for carry, the BHP is a little better than the full sized CZ (shorter grip) but gives you a longer barrel than the compact.
It is easier to have custom work (and also DIY) on the BHP. Sights, barrels, triggers, sears, hammers - all that stuff is more commonly available for BHP than CZ. Out of the box, the CZ will probably have a better SA trigger than the BHP.
The CZ is in many ways an improvement (imo) on the BHP. But the BHP is a true classic, and truly classy.
Of course, YMMV.

If you want an HP but don't want to pay over $600, then look around for an FEG-9HP. They're under $300 and are very nice guns by all accounts. The 9HPs parts should interchange with a true FN/Browning Hipower, but be careful because FEG makes a lot of hipower clones that will not. The FM hipowers are also cheap but I think their quality and performance is more variable.

Just for referance,I bought my first one (I have 3 now:), on line through a dealer in Utah NIB old stock,1994 vintage,no mags, for $435,and I live in So.Kalif.I just had my local FFL send paper there, after I paid for it,plus the transfer fees, and Whamo!,I had my first BHP.Loose the mag disconnect,it's GOLDEN:)Since then and now,I did this same process 5 more times(2 CZ's as well),the key is NIB,and it must be on the "list"Good luck!:D
