Got the DVD box set in my hot little hands..
Just watched episode 1 tonight.
I thought I had to endure "Ross" from Friends throughout the entire movie.. So glad I don't.. (I hope I don't!!)
But great thus far.. even the gf liked the 1st episode...
An episode a night, that's all we ask!!

You only see "Ross" a couple of more times throught the entire 10 episodes, so it's OK.
Not to be a spoiler, but episode 9, "Why We Fight" will absolutely tear your heart out. If you wonder why the USA is such a defender of freedom, watch this episode. (#9) As much as a hardened old coot that I am, I cried through the last half of that one, while squeezing divots into the stock of my M-1.

This is the best WWII series of all time. I also own the boxed set, and have watched it all the way through 3 times. My favorite episode is #7 "The Breaking Point". I sure hope you're enjoying it with a good surround sound system with a BIG subwoofer. You can hear the rounds wiz by your ears, and literally feel the shell bursts.
Dang, I guess it's time to watch it again.

I just finished watching it for the 2nd time (watched it for the first time just over a year ago).
Great set. Everybody should have a copy.

You're up for an excellent time watching these shows. I wish I could see them again for the first time. Absolutely without doubt the best war films ever made IMO.
Anyone heard about the BoB:Pacific project?

And...it's full of Englishmen pretending to be Americans. Got to be good for a change.

And they did a awsome job of it. It wasn't untill I was watching the making of Band of brothers documentery that I realized that Damon Lewis was English. I can usualy catch a slip in the accent, but all of the British actors did a great job
Even David Schwimer did a great job as Captian Sobel. Having read the book long before the movie came out, I couldn't think of a better person to play Sobel.

My buddy who's in the army feels this movie (and Saving Private Ryan's 1st half hour) should be required material to graduate from elementary school; junior high; and high school for all the kids; not just in the US..
BUT IN FRANCE!!
The French need to be reminded why they still speak french instead of German..
Awesome movie thus far..
And I usually can catch a "wrong era" faux pas but thus far I haven't.... The weapons are as they should have been for that era and time and date; as was the equipment...
So someone paid attention and did homework..

The fact that they had the real Major Winters on hand during shooting, along with some of the NCOs, probably kept screwups to a minimum. Having the real man you're playing there to ask questions of (or at least someone who was there and knew who did what, and what someone said right before they got hit, etc) certainly helps!
Playing Call Of Duty on PC is seriously based on BOB and well worth the $50! Very realistic! At least the American third of the game is! :)

There was only one of those that I caught, and that was after multiple viewings. And it still is a maybe...(I don't know when 1911 three-dot sights came into use)
Its a great series!!!

I've watched the entire set about 5 times. I just can't get enough of the stuff. :D Oh, and BTW gusgus, Episode 7 is my favorite too. If Spears didn't get a medal for what he did, he should've IMO.

I caught about two or three episodes when it was originally on HBO. Very good shows. It's great how they show the veterans at the beginning of every episode, everything they said was interesting and of course added immensely to the series.

I agree.
The book "Citizen Soldiers" by Ambrose should be required reading for elementary school, the book and series "Band of Brothers" required for middle school, and "Saving Private Ryan" for high school.

Lets hope the History Channel doesn't edit the entire series. Anybody heard how they plan on airing it? In one night or over several? It is interesting how many of the lead actors in BOB are English and the army invading Omaha beach in SPR were actually soldiers in the Irish Army. It's amazing to think of the courage and bravery of the hundreds of 19 and 20 year old kids (men) who fought and died for the belief in God and country. Thank God for everyone of them.

This series is unbelievable. Talking to a soldier one day at the Legion drove home what it was like to be in the Battle of the Bulge....
Watching this brought home the club that I am a member of being an infantry man.

Not to be a spoiler,
Let me guess... we win the war??
hehehe :D
My gf is watching it with me, and I swear every episode gets better and better...
I found myself yelling at the companies; "No, don't walk that way!! There are Krauts hiding there!!"
:p
I think this will be my new reply to the Frenchmen I meet who badmouth America. I've got one word for them: Normandy..

Yeah, you are a freak. You didn't watch the complete series, the We Stand Alone Together documentary, and the making-of featurettes in that same day like the rest of us...(right, guys?).

So I'm goofing around; and my gf goes..
"Hey, weren't we gonna watch a movie??"
err...
"Hey, were we gonna do episode 3 and 4 of that German movie..?"
Well, actually, it's a bunch of Brits pretending to be Americans trying to free the French from Germany's grip...
"Whatever, it's a great series.. I got really involved... I want to go buy a map tonight so I can see where they are talking..."
So.. she MADE ME watch 3&4 tonight :D
Someone should clone my gf and hand them out to single men on THR... :neener:

Props to the History Channel for not editing out anything. I'd expected the scene last night where the guy had some of his fingers shot-off to be cut.
