Opinions on the Glock 36?

First off I've never been a huge Glock fan but I do like the feel of the small Glocks for carry. And I like the .45acp in a compact gun.

Any opinions on them? I've shot a few different .45acps including my Kimber and HK Tactical. I'm not sure if being that small could feel too much different to fire.

I can't ever remember hearing any complaints about them either. Only thing is it's a lower cap mag and I'm used to a 9mm with a 10rd.. But I can deal with that:)

I figure somebody's got to have one, how do you like it?

I had one for a while and my main reason for selling it was that ohio seemed like they would never get ccw. I consider it a nice small gun packing a heck of a punch even with just 6 rounds in the mag.

I have since messed with lots of other guns and I still have a soft spot for the 36 because it is roughly the size of a glock 19 but packs a 45acp punch.

I never could figure out how I felt about only having 6 rounds in the mag, some times it was ok and sometimes I figured on going with the other glocks that had their bigger brothers to steal mags from for higher round counts. Like carrying a 27 and using a mag from the 22 for a spare reload.

I had one of the early ones and it was fine most of the time. Some of the magazines had some plastic that peeled a bit on one corner, this was common and I just trimmed it off. Other than making sure the mag worked fine for a few hundred rounds there was no problem with it that I recall. The plastic would peel in this time period and while you could force the mag to fit the gun I never liked forcing things and trimmed it till it stopped.

One thing I always wondered about is if glock might add to the 36 line up with maybe a full size single stack or would the 36 be the first they might drop from their lineup if things got tough.

Overall I rate the gun well, I just did not have a good use for it since ohio did not have ccw.

I have other stuff I can use for ccw, so I can't say I will get another 36 but I am considering it if the price is right.

I'm looking mainly for a carry gun. Something small.

Also just now looking at a 30 on hte net that's a little bigger but still shorter than my SW99 with the same mag count and a .45..

I'm going to head out shopping tomorrow and see what i like.

I owned one for about a year and really liked it. The only thing I didn't like was the short grip. My pinky finger would get pinched between the grip frame and the magazine. Right now I'm actually kind of regret selling it. I will probably get another one in the future.

I have a 21 and plan to get a 36. Picking the 21 was a tougher decision because there are a few other polymer .45s on the market. When it comes to a CCW gun, the 36 is really in a class by itself. I don't know of any other manufacturer that is making a .45 in that compact and reliable a package. Bersa makes a .45 Thunder but while I like my Bersa .380, I think I'd prefer to get something a bit more refined for CCW. I haven't read anything particularly good about the ultra compact 1911s, either. I would consider the 30, which would be a great gun, but will likely get the 36 because I like the feel of the thinner gun better.

Really the only other thing that concerns me about the 36 is it looks like (haven't been able to handle one yet) the grip may be too short for my hand.

I have a Glock 36 I like it a lot. I have good sized hands and the G36 fits my hand ok. It is surprisingly easy to shoot good groups with the G36. It also seems to be fast to get back on target. No, problems at all with my G36.

I just bought one Tuesday!

I had a Colt Defender, and I loved it, but didn't feel that I was getting the control and accuracy that I wanted.

I've put 100 rounds through the G36 so far. 50 UMC, and 50 Wolf ( ).
No problems at all, and the recoil wasn't bad at all.
I think the "deep" grip of the G36 fits my hand better than the 1911 models.

From 10 yards, I was able to put all 7shots in 1 ragged hole, just inside the 10 ring. Not bad for a first outing with a compact gun.
The Wolf ammo seemed to shoot as accurately as the UMC.

I've ordered a Milt Sparks Watch Six, as this will be a carry gun.
One thing I noticed with the Defender: I really don't think I can go much heavier than 22-26oz in a carry gun, unless I start wearing suspenders. :uhoh:

I've owned several Glocks, and liked them all.
I really think I'm more comfortable with DAO guns.

Let me be the first anal b@$**** to chime in and say that the Glock is not DAO. I used to think people were being picky about this detail, but when I finally understood how the gun work (I'm a little slow, or, as I prefer, "special") I understood why people always corrected me when I called it a DAO. It is really a two-stage striker, sort of a hermaphrodite between DA/SA and DAO, and it is a highly functional system, much more refined than a typical DAO system.

I've never owned one, but I've shot one. For some reason, many folks seem to put the G30 on an almost mystical accuracy pedestal. Of the at least three people I know that own a G30 and a G36, they all prefer the G30.

I don't really consider myself a big fan of the guns, but I feel that the Glock platform is a fine one, esp for CCW due to their light weight and outstanding reliability but if I were going to create an upstart company from scratch, rather than offer three sizes as Glock does, I'd offer two sizes of guns... one about the size of the G17/22 and one with about between the G23 and the G27... maybe a 3.75" barrel and about a 4.5" overall heigh. The G27 is 4.1" high. Get rid of the finger grips but add an A grip in each box and there'd probably be fewer complaints about the feel of the smaller guns.

Hell, I guess I'm late on this thread (seeing that you're already out shopping). Anyway, my primary carry is a Glock 36. Had it over a year about 2500rds (JHP, FMJ, brass, aluminum, 185-230gr., +P, reloads). It's been reliable. Accurate enough for SD. Installed the +0 Pierce extension and now the grip is perfect! It's ideal for my method of carry (IWB).

Oh yeah, I ordered the "Plus 0" mag adapters for my mags also.
After shooting 1 mag that pinched the &^% out of my finger, I put a Band Aid on.
No problems after that, but the adapters are supposed to solve the problem.

The real question is, since just about everyone that shoots the G36 reports the finger pinching, why hasn't Glock fixed it?
Would've saved my $8.5 per mag.

(Mini14jac, I bought one this Tuesday, too! No problems with pinkie-pinching in over 200 rounds this a.m. FWIW, over on GT, some report the extensions - while stopping the pinkie-pinching - can lead to various failures.)

Nice gun. Small-ish. Flat. Thin. Accurate. Reliable. Nice, fat bullet. I'm mighty pleased with the G36, myself.

I had one. It didn't live up to expectations and is now gone. I never cared for the trigger, but if it would have at least been accurate and reliable, I would still own it.

Have a 36 & a 21 and had a 30 for a couple of years.
Have quite large hands and long fingers. Although I wanted to
"like" the 30 it never worked with my hands and it was feed
unreliable. It was like a brick compared to the 36 or even the 21.
It's long gone. CCW the 36 daily and find it controlable with preferred
CCW round of Ranger T Series 230 +P. The shorter grip makes it point differently than my G34 "game gun" but minimal dry-practice or a few rounds
allows subconcious adj. so the sights come up like thay should.
Will never understand why Glock hasn't seen fit to make a ca. 5" "slimline"
pistol but their $ comes from selling pistols to LE not civilians!

I looked hard at the G36 and G30. The G30 got the nod. The gripframe on the 36 was just a bit too thin for my liking. And even with the 9 round G30 mags, you get half again as many rounds as the G36. The 30 fit the bill better. The increase in width was marginal as far as I was concerned.

I have a 36.
I find that the recoil is a bit snappy, but no less managable than firing a .357MAG snub!!!
Let us know how it shoots and don't wipe off the copper lube!!! ;)

Opinions on the Glock 36? I'd rather have a pair of 18's :)

I had one for a few years...I just counldn't get used to my pinky hanging off the end of the grip :( I sold it & turned the $$ into another poly gun :)

Hi 10-Ring,

Your pinky shouldn't have been hanging in the air. The magazine on the G36 is designed to support your pinky, like an extension of the grip.

IMO, the 36 is not that much smaller than the 30 to be worth trading 4 or 5 rounds.

Get the 30. It is incredibly accurate to boot.

A lot of people say that. Having handled and fired them both, I feel like the narrower grip of the 36 makes it more concealable for me (tending to like IWB and to dislike big tumor-like bulges printing from most Glocks on me). I will agree that the 30 is easier in the perceived recoil department.
