Semiautos can be as reliable as revolvers, but they need more attention to maintenance. How do police agencies prevent a weak mag spring or recoil spring from manifesting itself at the Worst Possible Moment?

We have a yearly inspection by Depatment armorers. They take the gun apart and examine it. They never tell us if they have replaced anything. I do know that they have sent some guns back to Beretta because of cracked frames.

we inspect bi-annually during training, they lube and repace parts as needed.

they don't inspect mag springs unless it fails during qualifications...that's why they issue 3 mags and teach speed reloads

Service weapons should be inspected every qualification and detailed stripped annually. Springs should be replaced every 5000 rounds-IMHO.
