Looking for help deciding between these two entry-level target models.

Accuracy is important, but not the only concern.

Shmackey, if you are a full-size adult, I think you'll find the 1451 to be a little to small for you. The 1451 was designed as a trainer for youngsters starting out in precision rifle - as a result, the stock is very small and tends to be too short for the average adult without adding a several spacers to the buttplate. They can be very accurate little guns, though.

The Biathlon Basic, based on the few times I've handled one (I've never shot one) has more of an "adult-sized" feel, to my hand at least.

Just my two cents' worth. YMMV.

The toggle action on the Biathlon is quite unique.
The Biathlon also comes with a weaver rail on top ready for rings.

Get an old Anschutz 54....they are great guns, very accurate, and relatively cheap since they are old. Mine still drives tacks, and I have had mine for years, and it was well worn when I got it. You can probably get one in good condition for less than 600 dollars.

If you just want a decent target rifle and aren't planning on competing, an Anschutz 64 is another choice. It is lighter and cheaper than the 54, and is a great entry level rifle. It should be cheaper still, maybe 3-400 dollars?

I wouldn't get a biathalon rifle since it has a magazine.....magazines only cause problems when you are trying to shoot for pure accuracy. Also, biathalon rifles are not designed purely for target shooting....they have to be hauled all over the place so they are made very light.

greg700, this might not be a simple question, but what are the basic differences between the 54 and 64? And is either one set up to take a scope, or just the nifty iron sights?
