.223 or 5.56 NATO

I've finally decided to build my own ar-15. I've ordered the lower form DPMS and am going to get kit from Model 1 sales.
The question is, should I get the .223 chamber or the 5.56 NATO
chamber, and why?
And what about Wolf ammo. It's really cheap. 1000 rds from Cheaper than Dirt for $120+ship. About the same from Ammoman.
Thanks for your input.

Unless you are going to be shooting benchrest, you'll be better served by the 5.56mm chamber. Your rifle will be more reliable.
I'd stay away from Model One Sales. You'll spend a little more, but have a much better rifle with Colt, Armalite or Bushmaster parts. While many people have had good luck with parts from the 2d teir distributors, and you can point to mistakes made by the first teir manufacturers, I'd say that overall you'll be happier with the name brand parts. Especially if you are building a carbine configuration. They can be a real pain to get to function with parts that are not totally in spec.

Go with 5.56, as it doesn't sound like you'll be shooting competition. Model 1 Sales is fine, just make sure you get all of the parts. All of these guys use many of the same parts providers, particularly for barrels. Mostly it boils down to service and guarantees provided. Model 1 and like providers provide a really economical way to get a barreled upper, making it reasonably cheaper than buying a new rifle. With the price of Bushy, Colt and Olympic uppers, you might as well buy a new rifle.
As for Wolf, I've used it in my Colt without a problem, but that has a chrome chamber and bore. It's really up to you. Some report that it sticks in the chamber, others that it wears extractors quickly, still others report no problems at all. If it's cheaper to scrub your chamber really well, and to replace extractors every couple of thousand rounds vs buying Winchester surplus, than go for it.

Get a quality 5.56 upper with chrome lined chamber and bore. Then buy a bunch of Wolf or Barnaul and go out and enjoy!
