Finally...my first S&W....

I struck a deal on Friday with the gun shop that sold me my Springfield M1A.
I traded my Beretta 96 in on a Smith & Wesson 686 4". The dealer offered me $350.00 for the Beretta...(that's $50.00 more than anyone else was offering)....and he wanted $535.00 for the S&W....(that's over $100.00 less than some of the other dealers are asking for the same model).
I left him the Beretta as down payment, and when I return with my NJ handgun purchaser's permit....(probably in two weeks)....I need to bring $198.00 to cover the balance and sales tax.
The only other expense will be a cheap Uncle Mike's holster to hold me over until I can afford to treat this new beauty to some proper tan leather. The speedloaders I now use with my GP-100 also fits this S&W 686 6 shot, and I just bought two more on E-Bay for only $7.50 for the pair.
I'm elbow deep in .38 / .357 Magnum reloads, so when I finally get this new wheel gun home, I'll be ready to do some serious shooting with it.

Now I've owned a few Rugers, (and still have a 6" GP-100), I have a Rossi, a Colt SA, I've owned some other revolvers in my day including a Dan Wesson, but this is my very first Smith & Wesson firearm....needless to say, I'm excited, and can't wait to get it out to the shooting range......

Sounds an OK deal Tony .... but if a 6 shot then sounds like an earlier one? Maybe still a tad high priced. But hey ... you are gonna like that a lot ..... little doubt about it.:)

I wish I still had my old 6" early 686 ..... maybe find a replacement one day. Come back with your range impressions .. which I am sure will be well favorable.

My dealer had two 686s the other day for $380.00 each. Stainless with 4" tube, outline rear sights with orange front insert, Pachmayr grips and TT, TH. They were nice. I still like my pre-war S&Ws though.

Yes sir, you are going to like your new purchase Tony,
as the S&W 686 is one fine handgun. I have the 6"
686-5 model (no intergal lock), that I shoot all of the
time. Its a great target pistol, that will consistently eat
the X out of a B-27 target from 50 yards; if you do
your part! :uhoh: Enjoy~ :D

Best Wishes,

In honor of your first S&W (the best), send me your address via email, and I'll see if I still have a 4" shoulder holster you can have gratis. It's been so long, I can't remember who it was made by, but it is a "name" leather company.

Thanks Bob, I do appriciate the offer, and I just sent you an e-mail with my address.

It's intresting how many S&W gift items there are listed on E-Bay. I always knew that S&W had a somewhat "cult" like following, but I didn't realise it's as big as Harley-Davidson, or Budwiser.

Sounds an OK deal Tony .... but if a 6 shot then sounds like an earlier one?

P95Carry, the 686 is still available with the 6 shot cylinder. the 686P has the 7 shot cylinder, and the 686PP has the ported barrel. Being a revolver traditionalist, I preffer the 6 shot, and besides, I also own a GP-100, and the HKS speedloaders for the GP also fit the 686 6 shot.

P95Carry, the 686 is still available with the 6 shot cylinder. Oops ... thx for the correction Tony .. my bad .... unresearched assumption! :p

I had an early 686 and want another but had not checked into what was available ... seeing as I would prefer to find an early one again one day if it comes along.

Bob,
Got it, and re-set another e-mail.....again, thanks....

P95Carry,
I rarely see used 686's on GunBroker.com, I guess when people get them, they don't let them go to easy. Most 686's I do see there are NIB.....

I wish I could have this new wheel gun by this weekend since the weather is supposed to be sunny and warm.....it's been raining for a couple of weeks around here, and I'm itching to go shooting in a big way...besides, our Bullseye compition starts on the 24th, and I need the practice.....
