I have a Taurus model Model 605 and every so often the cylinder refuses to turn when firing. The front end of the cylinder has a scuff mark around on half of it. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough of the time so that i dont want to carry it for ccw.
Any ideas?

I have that model and I have just detail stripped it. I'm planning to get a cylinder endshake washer from Brownells to eliminate the dragging and possibly make ignition more reliable by decreasing the headspace. I also plan to put boss washers on both sides of the hammer in case there's any resistance. Besides that I have done some once-over polishing. The repairs done by Taurus' Florida factory may not be high-quality judging from the work done on mine, and reported by others. (Plus there's the shipping cost and extreme delay.)

The forcing cone is touching the cylinder face. There should be a slight gap. This same happened with my Taurus Titanium Model 850 CIA. You could slightly file the forcing cone down a little bit yourself or have a gunsmith or Taurus do it. I send mine to Taurus as they said using something abrasive on any part of the gun or cylinder face could reduce its life. I was concerned about the scratches the forcing cone had put on the cylinder face. They didn't replace the cylinder and it makes me wonder though if it should have been. I don't think the Model 605 is titanium so that shouldn't be a concern other than the appearance.

1. Be sure the revolver is unloaded.
2. Cut a strip of heavy aluminum foil about 3/8" wide by 3" long. (The exact dimentions are not important.)
3. Insert the aluminum strip between the barrel and cylinder face. It should slide into place.
4. Double-action the gun and see if it binds up.
If it does the problem is probably in the way the cylinder is fitted, or the shaft it rotates on may be gunked up. Either take it to a qualified gunsmith or return it to the factory. Correcting the problem may be easy, but you have too know what you're doing or you may ruin the gun.

i had the same problem from a detective special.i had blown a case from some free reloads(never again)anyhow it bulged the cylinder at that one chamber.it will fire 5 rounds but bind up at number 6.ive retired it from service needless to say.

Taurus puts out some revolvers with very tight cylinder gaps. As you fire the cylinder expands and begins to bind. Send it back to Taurus.

You need to check B/C gap, end shake, and cylinder face square (all in one measurement).
Get some car feeler gauges and measure the gap between the cylinder and forcing cone AT EVERY CYLINDER HOLE. Then, repeat except apply rearward pressure on the cyliner to get the maximum gap. The difference in the gap with the cylinder fully forward and pulled to the rear is the endshake.
Endshake on a new gun should be 000 - .001". B/C gap should be between .004" and .007" (service limit .010"). The B/C gap should not vary more than .001" all the way around the face of the cylinder as it is turned.
If this is a Titanium cylinder, it swells considerably when it gets hot.
