Steel cases harmful?

I just bought a CZ527 7.62X39 carbine. I was hoping to stock up on all that inexpensive surplus ammo. Now, I just read on another gun board that steel-cased ammo should not be used in this gun as it will damage the extractor. Can anyone else confirm this? And if true, where can I get reasonably priced brass ammo? Thanks.

Commie ammo for Commie guns. :)
If you do get brass-cased 7.62x39 ammo, it will be quite expensive compared to Wolf and such.

Hoo boy. Do a search on wolf ammo, and you'll find that it is a topic which inspires the sorts of flames which, on other boards, leap only from things like religion and politics. I find it somewhat amusing as a spectator (and user of wolf ammo), but there was a thread on this over in one of the handgun forums just recently, and I think it's too early for the flames to start leaping again...

Here's a link to the thread in question: Wolf Ammo for Handgun Training Course (http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=72865&highlight=wolf+training+course)
There's a hundred more of 'em just like it if you do a search.

Why not just ask CZ if you can use Wolf in it?
I read somewhere that the first run of them had problems like you describe but that they were dealt with and the new ones can use Wolf.
Still though, CZ is known for excellent customer service.
I would just call them and have the peace of mind of not having to worry about it.

Congrats on the rifle MinScout. I purchased a CZ 527 in the same caliber a few months ago. Unfortunately I can't answer your question though. I have shot some of the Wolf through my rifle without any problems, but like you I saw a post that caused me to ponder the question. I hope someone out there can shed some light on this. Also the suggestion to call CZ is a good one. If I get a chance sometime soon, I will do so & post the response. If you get a chance, post a picture of your rifle.

Thanks for the input, guys. I've already put 80 rounds of steel-cased ammo through this gun without a hitch. Only half was Wolf. The other half was VYMPEL Russian ammo. The cheapest brass ammo I've found is some Winchester FMJs for almost $300.00 per 500.

Let's see, $70 per 1000 for Wolf versus $600 per 1000 for Winchester. Does an extractor cost $530?

On a bolt action rifle that doesn't have the violent extraction of a semi-auto, my opinion is yes to the steel case ammo. This is assuming you want to shoot a lot. If you're looking for accuracy though, I've heard that Wolf CF rifle ammo (as opposed to RF) is rather lacking in the accuracy department, so stick with brass (or reload...plus, the factory brass you shoot can be stashed for reloading accurate loads later)

I've used steel case in my AR no problem. But steel case is also the only time I've ever experienced a jam in a Mini-14. Go figure. Might not be reliable in all guns, but I doubt it will hurt the weapon, as there is a shellac on the cases. Wouldn't even try reloading...

That was $300.00 per 1,000, not 500. Anyway I found some brass ammo in Shotgun News Made by Cheetah of Africa. That might be an option. Anyone have any experience with this stuff? I plan on doig a sh@#$tload of shooting this summer.

CZ is known to use Sellier Bellot ammo in the factory to test their guns. S&B 7.62x39 has lacquer coated steel cases.
I'd send CZ a message to see what they recommend:
